Vale Kirk Douglas.
103 years old.
An actor from the Golden Age with more than meat between his ears.
A staunch supporter of blacklisted actors.

And while I'm at it:

Including a private eye..."

Kirk Douglas will be remembered as Spartacus and the father of Michael but he was much more than that. Kirk Douglas was one of the Saturday matinee idols who starred in many action films in the fifties and sixties. He is the same group as Bob Mitchum, Richard Widmark, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Robert Wagner. These guys starred in films when the plots were simple, the good guys usually won and the production did not rely on special effects to carry the show.

As has been posted Kirk Douglas was also and activist and fought for the rights of actors who were ostracised by the studio system. He also wrote ten books.

Another part of my child hood has just passed - thanks for the memories Kirk Douglas.

People forget he was in the Man from Snowy River and played both the brothers Harrison an Spur - the bad brother and the good brother.

People whinged why did they give a yank such a big role in an Aussie legendary story, but he helped the film make money in USA and around the world.

Plus they forgot that Tom Burlinson who plays Jim Craig - The Man from Snowy River - was born in Toronto to a couple of English migrants, moved to New Jersey when he was 2, lived there for 3 or 4 years, thn England for 3 or 4 years, then migrated to Oz when he was about 10.
