A great bloke has passed today. Tangles was old school....he played VFL footy and Test cricket for his country. He had a heart bigger than Texas and was always generous and caring of others. He had a great sense of humour and a huge grin all the time.

Well played Big fella.

Only 68. Very young age at which to die. A lovable bloke who was known to all. Vale Mr Walker.

RIP Tangles,Salt of the earth was big Maxy a true aussie champion who always gave his all and a childhood hero of mine.:'(

Fine bowler, terrific third foil after Thomson and Lillee.
Told a fine yarn too.

Too young

Sad day to see Big Maxy has left us.

If you grew up in his era, every kid I knew had the Maxy walker bowling action in their armoury. You may have been able to do some of the Thomo action, Lilliee, Hogg, Marshall, Garner or Lawson (remember that foot drag) but everyone could do the Maxy!

Thommo, Lawson then Merv were the ones I had nailed down. For the life of me I could never get Maxy's bizarre action. I could only imagine how much it would mess with a batsman's timing, seeing a bowler basically have a seizure every delivery.

Whenever his name comes up I think of The Twelfth Man and how well Billy Birmingham captured Maxy's larrikinism. Streaking across the ground, hung like a "baby's arm holding an apple".

RIP Tangles. You'll be missed.

Playing the WWOS intro music by blowing his nose was pretty cool. We can start a whole thread on them.

Great bloke, terrific raconteur, decent footballer, underrated bowler and handy lower order bat.

I don't know about the rest of you but thinking of Tangles and his early WOS days before forming a great duo with our own Louie on WWS on 9 always brings a smile to my face and in my view being able to leave folks you don't know with a smile on their dial is basically the highest level of success a person can attain.

Well played Mr Walker, you'll be missed and people like you are missed.

Really sad news. Big Max seemed to have the happy knack of being good at just about everything he turned his hand to. Always came across as a genuine, likeable bloke. A wonderful Aussie hero.
