The death of Neil "Nipper" Trezise last weekend represents the loss of another link to our fabulous sides of the early fifties.
Nipper played 185 games with Geelong, including being a member of the 51 and 52 Premiership sides, and the team that set the record 26 game winning streak. He was a tough, fearless rover, one half of the famed Trezise/Pianto roving duo. Nipper went on to be Club Vice Captain under Bob Davis, and the Captain in 1959. He finished his playing senior playing career at the end of 59, and then captain/coached the Reserves in 60 and 61. In 60 he won the Gardiner medal, and we won the reserves flag. He was non playing reserves coach trom 62 - 64 winning the flags again in 63 and 64. During his Reserves coaching stint he developed many of our great players of the 60s.
He then continued to serve the Cats off the field as a committeman, Club President, and Social Club President. He was on the executive of both the Past Players, and the History committee until his death.
"Nipper" was a Cats great.
A memorial service is being held for him today - 2:00pm, Fred Flanagan Room, Kardinia Park.
