incredibly sad. i think the latest show he had was cancelled as well.

people talk about his movies as his fine work. i would disagree and raise it with his stand up, his stand up although hyper and sometimes all over the place he was still incredibly funny especially the san fransisco show. one of the best of our time.

it shows depression and suicide is still being neglected. and we need to do all we can to minimise it.

vale robin williams. vale.

Very sad news.

Had some really good movies and some even better roles.

An insanely talented comedian.

Engaging on his own whenever he was, and that's the real barometer of someone's comedy. As someone else here said, he was insane – all over the place, but it wasn't like this spliced up hyperactivity was the joke, it was like he just had too many ideas and spat them out as quickly as he had another one. And I don't even like stand-up.

Just genuinely surprised and seriously sad when I heard this. Poor old prick, no one so decent and good at his art deserves to have to be unhappy with his life. One Hour Photo was my favourite movie of his, probably. Remember thinking how sterile and creepy that film was as a kid.

Oh that is incredibly sad. As with any 80s/90s kid, I grew up watching him. He certainly had some struggles over the years, but it doesn't make this any less shocking or tragic. I guess when someone has often made the whole world laugh, it feels cruel to say goodbye like this.

Just did a personal top 10 of my favourite films featuring him (not performances, just films);

1. Fern Gully
2. Aladdin
3. Good Will Hunting
4. Insomnia
5. The Fisher King
6. One Hour Photo
7. Dead Poets Society
8. What Dreams May Come
9. Good Morning, Vietnam
10. The Birdcage

HM: Jumanji, Mrs. Doubtfire, Nine Months, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Also found enjoyment at the time in the likes of Hook, Flubber, Jack, etc.

Still need to see: The World According to Garp, Deconstructing Harry

I only particularly rate the first 5 or so films, but he was always good value. He had the x factor to make (a lot of) poor films worth watching.

You left out Popeye.

He was brilliant in Mork and Mindy and in films like Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poets Society, roles that were tailor made for him but could also play against type in films like One Hour Photo and Insomnia.

Very sad news.

I hope Mearth is holding up OK.

R.I.P
Usually I CGAF about most celebs dying but this bloke was one of the better ones
So many great movies and I'm sure I haven't seen half of them
Jumanji, Mrs Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society etc etc

Not surprised he offed himself though. Seemed like a bit of a nut

Wouldn't have worded it so, but I agree. There always seemed to be a certain madness about him that hinted at something else.

I don't think it's limited to just him. A lot of comedians, particularly ones of his vintage, seem to have suffered from depression and personal demons.

As has been said by Stratton_Gun, I normally couldn't care less about celebs, or why their deaths are so prominent in media. But I am actually a bit down after hearing that he is dead.

He is an actual actor. Not like the majority now, who just "act" exactly the same way that they actually are.
Good will hunting and bicentennial man, to Mrs Doubtfire and Good morning Vietnam.

Pork hunt, it's terrible we went out the way he did.
