2 years ago I flagged Nathan Foley as a future premier midfielder.

Basically I saw some signs in his clearance work and leg speed that made me sit up and take notice.

You may or may not care, but Im seeing the same positives in Valenti's game. Personally, I think you have an A-grader blossoming under your noses.

We can only hope so Danny! Shane is one of those players who is not flashy or exceptionally talented but he is one of the most committed and gutsy players i have seen in a while at the Dees. He demanded senior selection while racking up the possies down at Sandy and has proven he will be a worthy player at AFL level. Hes not the tallest kid either but could easily become a brent harvey/sam mitchell type player.
He's one of the reasons i hold out hope for a brighter 2009 for the Dees.:thumbsu:

BC, he isn't physically quick - but mentally he really is a flash, he always seems to know what's going on around him, which is much more important than pure legspeed (Kane Tenace can tell you all about that).

Maric looks impressive, he will be a player of note.

But thats an easy talent to spot, Valenti, for mine, has the poise and the balance to really make a mark in the next 2 years.

I agree - he takes no prisoners. And he got to the AFL the hard way (through the VFL). Will be a player, and when we get everyone healthy I really like the idea of Brock/Jones/Valenti as a trio.

Need a Buckley or another quickish midfielder to compliment that lot though.

They are an awesome engine room, but the best sides have someone who can break the lines (Ablett, Cooney, Bateman).

Once upon a time people were salivating over a Brock/Jones/Moloney trio, but I think I'd rather Valenti too

If that is our midfield we will be consigned to the lower depths for years. We need pace not grunt. Leg speed and hand speed.

we have this up and comer going by the name of Morton

MASSIVE preseason in the gym but. little light. i saw in one passage of play in the 3Q he just got knocked of the ball far to easy.
but will be something special in the next 3 years

This had only just occurred to me but goddamn he reminds me a hell of a lot of Boomer Harvey which only means good things. Hopefully he can master Harvey's skill in coming years

once Cale Morton puts on some weight plus strengh he will be a gun player. Just like collingwoods dale thomas skinny at first put some muscle on and is a gun

I wouldn't go so far as to call Dale Thomas a gun, he has the odd good game and takes the occasional spectacular mark, but he's no gun.

You're right in one sense though, Morton is currently unable to really compete physically at AFL level, so adding some muscle will be a major priority in pre-season for him.
