lol, honestly please chill out, I am just getting thoughts and ideas about the possibility its not meant to provoke anger at me.

You see some comments in here have been interesting like SS_Fury there is no need to take it personally.

I personally see Gibbs as a major win off the field if the Crows secure him to stick it up to the AFL and say see we got our man in the end.

Anyways it will be interesting to see what happens on Monday when all the trade news comes out!

Let me clarify.

I think Van Berlo is an awesome player that I would love to have at the club for the entirety of his career. He may just want to go home at some stage, better a deal is done when the Crows will benefit than lose him for nothing.

Anyways its just a ramble and my personal opinion.

If I upset anyone I apologise, lol I think I will refrain from any further discussions.

We don't disagree here, we would all love to see Gibbs find his way to Adelaide and if all we had to pay was van Berlo then that would be amazing, but most of rate the chances of this happening at about the same level of our chances of securing Judd.

Oh and Ferris one word for you about good players wanting to return home - Pavlich.

It was important to him to be a one club player, even though Adelaide tried pretty much everything possible to entice him back. Says more about his personal qualities than a certain other captain from a WA team.

lol

yeah true.

I heard one caller on radio suggesting Judd could play for the Crows and live in Melbourne. Not as absurd as it sounds!

Hmmm hang on there. Pavlich is a unique, in the sense he is probably going to be offered more money in Perth than in Adelaide from the booming mining industry in endorsements etc.

Adelaide is the most disadvantaged city to live

Judd is going to be the richest player ever for his time having secured potentially 1/7th of Carltons salary cap!

I dont think Adelaide could afford Pavlich + provide the endorsements.

imo

Do you believe Reilly, Knights and Van Berlo will be at our clubs for the entirety of their careers?

I mean honestly?
Maybe, yes and yes.

Do you honestly believe that every single player will end up playing in their home state? It's pretty much what you're implying. I would suggest that well over half of the players that get drafted interstate do not end up playing in their home state. The numbers would be interesting.

An descent player playing for WA or SA wants to go home. It appears that the exception is that SA does not get descent players wanting to come home!

WA can offer more off field endorsements than Adelaide can currently because of the growth of the mining industry.

Who was the last big name to genuinely come home to Adelaide? Jarman. That was back in the 90's

I will not enter into a discussion of Wayne Carey as it may be defamatory, but there were reasons why he needed to leave Victoria!

Pavlich was more about opportunities he has already set up (owns a restuarant / bar I believe as well as a few other investements) as well as the one team player and not leaving the club he is the captain of.

So players are ONLY interested in the money and the outside opportunties?
A captain normally is paid more than the others in the team - or have the better endorsement opportunities. So it is rare for a captain to move on.

If the mining boom is such why would Judd leave? House price boom etc have been reported greater in Perth.

He is going from a two team town when he was pretty much the biggest fish in the pond and could command top dollar and pick and choose what he wanted to do to a town with how many other teams and how many other players also vying for those outside opportunties? This means that often the outside opportunties can be less $ as there are more players that are willing to fight for the sponsorship dollars and companies can pay less to some other players.

I think there are certain players within the afc (one recently left btw) that have set themselves up very, very nicely with outside interests gained from contacts within the afc. ;)

For every one of those guys you have three that stay loyal to their club. Sure, loyalty is low in the AFL but it's certainly not the case where every single draftee will at some point look to head home.

We've had guys like Kris Massie and Ian Perrie who have been at our club for ages. I'm just looking at an old year book and Mark Stevens was another long servant to the club. I'm very confident about Knights, VB and Reilly staying at the Crows. Apart from some early concerns with Reilly (which are now gone) they all seem to love it at the club and in the city.

Just having a quick look through say West Coast's list and they've got guys like Braun and Wirrpunda who have been there forever and even more like Hansen, Rosa, Selwood and Staker who will play for many more years as that club. Please don't mention the mining industry. It has no relevence on this point because none of them have jobs in the mines and the mines don't mean they get more media opportunities.

you are all delusional if you think VB is going home and VB is way better than Gibbs infact I'd have VB over gibbs every day of the week

and if Player always want to come back to their home state where the hell is Pavlich? sometimes players like to stay at their 1st club

I wouldn't mind that deal at all and I can see your reasoning. I think Adelaide would have to give up a pick as well though.
