the results were handed back today how did we all go?

only had pyschology as a mid year and got a B+

and on the subject where can we find the statistics for the letter grades and the different percentile ranks

cheers :thumbsu:

Pretty sure you have to wait for the end of the year for them to release the report unless you want to order a statement of marks

I got A+ for Accounting

If you plan to get in the 40's then anything less than an A is not going to do the trick. :thumbsu:

Wow, an 86/90 A+ cutoff for physics.

I didn't do it when I did year 12, but has it ever been that high?

It was absolutely piss easy.

I'd be disappointed if I dropped a mark, and I'm far from the best physics student at my school, let alone the state.

I've never known an exam to be that simple, at any level of schooling.

Chem on the other hand...

78% was the cut-off for an A+.

Yep. Even an A is pushing it sometimes. I got an A for my IT exam and got 40.

I got an A+ for the other IT subject exam, but did crap in sacs and also got a 40 LOL.

If only I'd done good in sacs AND exams. oh well. :o

Yeah you pretty much need all A+'s. I got an A+ for each semester in geography a few years ago (about 95 for each) but then only got an A in the exam - ended up with only 38 - before scaling. Rest of my subjects I got all A+s and they ranged from 41-45. Really makes you realise how hard it is to get high 40s! but a lot of it still comes down to the end of year exams which can change it a lot - definitly brought my english and history scores up!

B+ for Psychology as well.

I was hoping for an A so that the 40 was still possible.

35-36 is now a more realistic goal.

well for the previous doubters in this thread that a B+ erases any chance of a 40. well there are a few things to take into account.

i have done the maths and a B+ for pysch puts a student into the 18%-29% rank for the exam. a high B+ therefore putting you around the 20% mark for the exam. an A+ at the end of year exam would certainly lift you much closer to the top 8% of students which would give you the 40. add this to your sac marks where you would need to be performing extremely well considering im on 135/140 this would push up my study score considerably and considering i go to scotch college where i am nowhere near the best student these sac marks would be clearly pushed up.

so yes if you received a high B+ and going extremely well on your sacs and a very high end of year score on your exam would likely give you the 40.

Am going to VCE next year, is there a website which states which subjects get scaled up? Obviously the advanced maths (Maths General Advanced + Maths Methods) would be one, but would like to know more if there are indeed any others.

Also, whilst on the VCE topic; does English Lit count as an English subject in the 'Prerequisites' range for Uni? So for example, I could English Lit instead of the normal English couldn't I? Does English Lit scale up compared to normal Eng?

A heap of questions in there, if anyone can answer all/most of them it would be greatly appreciated.

Year 10 going into 11 or year 11 going into 12?

- Scaling from last year - http://www.vtac.edu.au/pdf/scaling_report.pdf
- Literature is considered higher than English (I think) so yes, it counts.
- English scales down one or two and Lit scales up one or two. It's all in the link.

I'm going into year 11 next year. Even though its not VCE my exams went like this:
Geography 78%
English 79%
Systems Technology 80%
Science 82%
RE 82%
Indonesian 83%
Maths 95%

No coincidence my subjects are all Maths based next year! (Other than English & RE of course)

Would like to crack the 80% barrier for English and 85% for everything else at the end of the year.

7 subjects, and no 3/4's in year 11? Have fun with that workload.... Best advice to anyone going into year 11: Do a 3/4 and score highly in it, it makes your life a lot easier. I got 46 in psychology last year, and it means I only really have to worry about 3 subjects this year.

P.S - Chem can go suck a d**k.

Well most people who don't do a 3/4 subject in year 11 drop two subjects going into year 12. They do 7 so they can have a better choice then if they choose say 6.

I wouldn't focus so much on what gets scaled up or down- in fact I wouldn't really consider it at all. It's good when subjects you enjoy/are good at get scaled up, but when you're having to do a subject you don't enjoy and struggle at for 2 years, for the sake of a couple of study score points (which you won't get if you do poorly in it anyway), then you'll regret it majorly.

Basically, they only get scaled up if you do fairly well in it, so there's no point doing methods if you're going to struggle as you're better off doing further maths and losing a few marks (unless of course you need methods as a pre-requisite).

Good advice. Do what you're good at and that you enjoy. You'll be more motivated and do better.
