The question is what do you do about it? Suck less hard?
Agree with everything you're saying, but I don't think our coaches are telling them to take these ridiculous shots in games. Training shows most of them kicking regular set shots but in games a lot of them revert to snaps.Train? Draft players who are natural forwards? Not allow players to snap goals from set shots 20m out directly in front. Every player should have a routine from all angles, in front is a set shot 100% of the time. Repetition.

Notes:
- Ross Lyon never had a team in the top 8 for marks i50.
- We reached a Grand Final with the 4th lowest average i50s, and were minor premiers with 5th worst. There's "defence first" and then there's "defence or bust".
- The tackle i50 numbers are damning. 4 out of last 5 years we've been dead last. How is that possible with so many short people on our list?

They do train it. It can help, but shifting it is a complicated thing, and often not simple.Train? Draft players who are natural forwards? Not allow players to snap goals from set shots 20m out directly in front. Every player should have a routine from all angles, in front is a set shot 100% of the time. Repetition.

They are never where the ball is when it hits the ground. It's why they don't kick goals and why they can't apply pressure.Interesting stats to look at.
Just had a look at the tackles i50. The top 15 in the comp average 1.5 per match or better. Our best is Josh Treacy with 1.17 per match. This man should get a long contract. Heavens knows what our small forwards are doing with themselves.
lolIt just goes to show that if we fix our defensive pressure and kicking how far we will go.
You're right (I think). Total tackles for our forwards - Switta 3.33, Trav 2.58, Shooter 2.55, Mitch 2.25, Sonny 2.20, Josh 1.83.It would be interesting to see a stat of tackles by forwards not in the forward 50 though, to get the complete picture.
I'm not making excuses for our small forwards individually but it does seem a deliberate strategy to try and set our line of defence further back than most teams. We don't forward press much so we don't lock the ball inside 50, we tend to try and hold the opposition up in the midfield and have the forwards track back to try and help that.
I think we're worried about our lack of speed in the backline, and getting caught out too often out the back if we defend too high.
Almost as if when the wheel turns we will be one of the most dangerous teams forward of centre, almost like the wce model some fella conjured years ago [emoji848]Some other important benchmarks below for context (these are per game averages btw)...

It just goes to show people will draw whatever they want from random useless stats to try and convince themselves that their ideal situation is just around the corner.
It's technically not over, but anyone who's watched this club for the last 25 years knows it's over.To be fair there were some pretty unreasonable extenuating circumstances this time.
It's not over yet, at any rate.
