Tried this in another post, didnt take off, probably cause it sucks.

But anyone getting into anyone elses ear about the bleeding obvious gets the BANDAID AWARD. (For stating the bleeding obvious).

So, I reckon we have a decent spread of players, a lot we don't know about yet. But one thing that is happening is people are always putting the usual suspects in the usual places. Great, but this is an internet forum and we can lash out with the old creativity. So, lets have some set ups for playing against a fast running agile forward line like footscray, a team with big KP's like essendon, etc. Mix it up. Lets see what we can come up with.

Heres some considerations, what would walker be like in the half forward line ?
Setanta, wiggins, bower, hartlett up forward. Setanta on the ball (super fit bloke).
What about fish, waite in defence, Eddie ?

No one can put Fev at full back, we've been there.

Seems a little simplistic to pull a player from his regular position, drop him at the other end of the ground and call it an inspired piece of creative coaching. This forum has come up with virtually every combination possible as supporters seek a destructive, workeable lineup. I haven't read Eddie as back-up forward line ruck yet but it's still only January. Will Tex move into the middle, should Waite run straight at the ball from CHB, Whitnall/Wiggins/Lappin forward/back - the list is endless and indicative of how versatile we need to be in today's game. Usually love your work Audas but perhaps by this thread alone you've qualified as inaugural winner of your own award.

Hey...didn't Parkin do that with Glen Manton in 1999?
First thing he did was shove him in the goal square and had great results.

I think what Audas is trying to say is we need more than 1 game plan for next year. A lot of the time last year we went into games with a set plan and no alternatives for when things went awry, if we want to start winning games next year we have to develop some flexibility during matches with multiple plans in place for a quick change of tactics and playing style. I think now we have a lot more depth and players that are 188 - 195 with exceptional pace it gives us a lot more options depending on the opposition and the flow of the game, i saw they are training Benjamin with the midfield group which will be mighty handy having a 190cm midfielder with blistering pace, ran the 100mtrs in 10.9sec in High school, to help out in the middle when Kouta hangs up the boots. We now have a lot of players with multiple skills that can be chopped and changed to suit the flow of the game or certain match ups, this should give us an extra edge for the season ahead, assuming of course that Pagan uses them affectively and is a bit more fluid with his positioning.:thumbsu:

I think there's a few positional changes that can be considered, some a bit more left-of-center than others:

- Waite to CHB - Been put forward heaps, would help take him to the ball and let him run out of defence, fills a glaring need in our side

- Walker to FB - Quick, tall and strong enough to play on almost any full-forward in the league, and very dangerous going the other direction. Would maximise attacking opportunities on the backline by putting him directly opposed to the opposition player with the worst defensive skills. Has anyone ever tagged a full-back before?

- Fevola on the ball - He's our best player, and our only star. Why not try pinch-hitting him in the center? He'd hit the packs hard, and it would get him inolved in the play. Some days you just can't have your best player isolated from the game down in the goal-square.

- No ruckman. Seriously, has any team ever had a worse ruck combination than we do? Why not play 4 midfielder in the center square and rove to the opposition ruckman. Not every possession, but occasionally to throw them off balance. We'd go 3 on 3, with the extra player just reading the drop of the ball, and watching the opposition ruckman in case they try to grab it out of the air. Would be interesting, anyway...

- Nick Stevens as a permanent forward. He's fairly solid (more so each year it seems), but more importantly is quick off the mark, decent overhead, and an excellent kick of the football. He has also become increasingly lazy defensively as a midfielder and his work-rate has dropped in recent years. Why fight it? Why not stick him in the goalsquare, where he can fill our glaring need for a second forward to take pressure away from Fevola.

I'm sure others can think of more, thats just a start

hhaha I love the No Ruckman idea! I really do! Never been done before.
Would be interesting.

Now i can finally say i'd like to see Waite on the CHBline. I was against it earlier, but now i think with his agression and run, we could use him down there, on the flank/wing.

Walker at FB? I'm not sure. I suppose, we could use him as the target, as you said btdg, having someone tag a full back! But he's more use to use on the HB line, rotating in the mid.

I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so i dont like the idea of mucking up the team too much :)

sorry :)
