Why not?
We have one about trade talk, and that's totally hypothetical.
This is real and a lot of people are going to have strong opinions.

I have a very strong opinion.
Why drop a player in such good form, and leave in players in ordinary form?
I've gone into it on the main board. I think this "finals experience" thing can be over-rated, especially when it means dropping a player in such good form.

We need to replace like with like. You cannot remove two midfielders and add a couple of forwards.

The problem is that Thornton and Schmidt are out for the season, so it gives us little options for reserve players that are not yet ready to step up.

This is the reason Ablett and Buchanan have still been getting games in their ordinary matches. We simply have no other viable options.

i don't think he is performing as well as everyone is lauding him to be

he doesn't get too much of the football (which is down to his fitness)

there are also quarters where he disappears

pat just seems to use the ball well, and he plays with flair which makes him stick in our minds

if someone like mcveigh did the same thing pat is doing, he will not be getting the same accolades as he wouldn't stand out with his style of play

He is 19 next year.... has done enough after battling to even play ressies with OP!!!

The last thing Swans need in his development is to crucify him under the extra "finals pressure"... IT IS REAL!

Next year the name Veszpremi will not escape any opposition coaches attention!!!!... he was given a late necessary run!

But.... cannot compare a lagging Brions side (with nothin to prove) with MUST DO .. finals footy from a hard team like Norf!

Flashy YES!
Clever YES !
Talented YES!

Proven at his lowest if under extreme pressure NO! (Unkown!)

Watch out for _ _ _ out Vesz IN!;)

Haha, I was thinking the same.

Unavoidable.. tons of footy players read these forums. Especially Swans players because of The Roomies Thread.

I am not talking about like with like, but if you're telling me we lack the versatility or adaptability in the Swans team to be able to tinker with the line-up to fit IN Vez and drop Ablett, then we've got problems bigger than I imagined.

I've conceded on Grundy, I just wanted him to play, but NO ONE can mount an argument that Luke Ablett is going to make a bigger impact on Saturday than Vez might have (well, not an argument I'm going to agree with).

And I'd prefer Schmidt to Ablett if he were fit, yes.
I have been an Ablett fan but his skills and disposal have seriously declined this season, as much as I still love his hard-at-it attitude and work ethic.

I would agree with you in terms on Ves being the better footballer in terms of ability. However, Ablett gives us a tagger for the midfield and he 'generally' does half decent job. He no longer offers us much in terms of attack and therefore he should now become a short term option.

I am only playing devils advocate, looking at it from how Roos and the coaching staff may see it.
I would prefer Ves in the team, and he MAY yet be.
 
What's the point giving games to players who are past it or out of form?

Vespremi, Grundy, Barlow are the future of the swans. Ablett, LRT, Crouch are not.

No one will beat the cats so wouldn't it be better to give the young blokes finals experience for the future? I don't care if they get beaten as long as they are competitive and have a go.
 
Just watching the Geelong game and it's pretty evident that some of the young guys - though often great when the goings good - are not able to maintain their poise under the sort of pressure a top side (including the 3 in yellow ;)) can put against them. IMO Roos is right to stick with old soldiers in the finals.

Example : Crouch 10 possessions in the first quarter when Geelong were hammering us while Grundy gave away almost as many frees and Moore struggled with accuracy.
 
Pat was fairly straight up about his peformance at the After Match last week.Yes, the goals were on the board,but he knows he's on a pretty steep learning curve atm & needs to work on his off the ball efforts.Things will be ramped up an extra 20% on last week & the more physical in & under types will need to be to the fore throughout Saturday's game.
His time WILL come.:thumbsu:

A coupe of weeks ago Roos said something along the line s of... "we're not going to make much of an impact in the finals but at least we can get some finals experince in the young guys"... therefore why would he drop Vez?
 
Stupid choice! Vesper kicks GOALS! Rhino unfortunately doesn't, and he is not fit anyway. When is the last time Rhino kicked 4? From memory he has 20/25 this year, a percentage record way below Franklin's who they say needs a kicking coach.

Rhino can play midfield, and if he does play at all (which I doubt) should be in the midfield mix and omit Ablett/ Buchanan. We need confident crumbers, and despite his youth, lack of experience and fitness concerns, he gives us an extra dimension. I repeat - HE KICKS GOALS! Rhino doesn't. Roos will bring him into our forward line by the start of the game anyway!!
