Just wondering how our first pick is looking thus far?

I heard he was only playing VFL reserves, and struggling at that level.

What sort of pre season did he have?

Is he struggling with an injury?

I expected to see him playing for Coburg now and pushing for a spot in the AFL by mid season.

I realize he is still to build some muscle etc before rucking but what other value could he be? By contrast Rich is killing it for the Lions(glad I picked him up in my supercaoch team:))

thoughts?

Yeah also saw that he was only playing Coburg 2's.. Bit worrying if he hasn't been struggling with an injury... Wondering why we cant play him in a forward role for the tigers??? (ala Kreuzer for the blues in his 1st year)

He is obviously not built enough to create a rucking contest but you dont need a big body to play forward if you got the smarts (westhoff)

We are not playing him because it's the 5th year of the 5 year plan. Wallace won't develop youth this year so he can get better results to save himself. Indicative of his whole tenure at Richmond, top up with quick fixes, ignore youth.

He ain't playing because he is too skinny, its better to give him a full year at the Burgers and then play him next season when he has gained a bit of weight. He would get absolutely rag dolled out there in the condtion he is currently in.

lol at you using Rich to compare him with. Rich had played a full 2 years of senior football before being drafted. Vickery had come off a knee reco and pretty much a full year. Why not compare him to Aayce Cordy? He is also a ruckman and was taken a few picks after Vickery...he isnt playing seniors yet.

Seriously people get a clue you are expecting way to much to see Vickery playing AFL in his first year. And with the 12/10 rule yeah sometimes he will play VFL reserves.

requires the most development of any of our players, hasnt shown much as of yet, and until he does and shows he can play at vfl seniors level, he will be promoted to the team.

dont go holding your breath on him to come good, we could be in for a very long wait.

hes not any skinnier than kruezer was in his first season... bc he was coming off a knee reco and got to spend plenty of time in the gym building strength so no excuses about that.

What i noticed of him was he was WAYYYYYYYYYYY off the pace of AFL footy when he played in the NAB cup vs collingwood, did a couple of nice things when he did touch it but seriously needs a lot of time so wouldn't expect much this season

to be frank Im concerned, at the same age he's shown less than Jon , so make of that what you will...a few on here can be held to account they were crying out for his selection despite conventional wisdom that suggests there's rarely been a ruckman any ****en good selected in first R

If he turns out to be a dud theres going to plenty of quality players that he will be compared to in terms of draft position. Swift, Beams, Ziebell, Sidebottom and Zakarakis to name a few. While we needed a ruckman it's not smart to take them so early in the draft. Very hit and miss, with our draft history we needed a sure thing.

I really worry about our selection of vickery.

1. Did we pick him because his dad is employed by the club and we had a bit of a conflict of interest?
2. He's had a knee reco.

:thumbsu: and another :thumbsu: with double :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Right with you Barnz.

Can you please be present at the 2010 draft day table for Richmond?

Thanks

There was plenty of talk on Swift but he also had a knee reco - however was rated one of the best of his age group. Ziebell - everyone had on the radar - I'm surprised he still got down to the Kanga's, top pick for them when they discard Wells to Gold Coast.

Zaharakis. Well, there were a few interested partied if I remembered correctly and I don't know if he was a standout, but boy, look at the guy show heart and run. Take note RFC and watch this space.

We do have Post though who I think has some talent - how is he progressing? And Goo - in the 2's also ain't he? Any chance? I heard they are suspect on his commitment and pace.

dunno about any of that i just didnt see any signs that made me think whoa he's alright, as in a BIG grab, or bust a pack wide open...Is early days I know but shit I didnt think he would be starting from so far back the way people were raving about him

The kid just needs time. None of the 2008 drafted ruckman are doing that much, and most club's aren't expecting much, it's just way too early.

Look at how Andrew Browne went, he was thrown in at the deep end and sank. Browne's 5cm taller and 15kg's heavier and just looked totally lost. No point in expecting too much from a skinny young ruckman before his time.

I'd be happy if he's a regular in senior VFL in the second half of the season.

Tyrone's up to it, don't worry about that, just give him time.

This rule kept Putt and Gourdis in Coburg twos most of 2008. Its a bit of a worry, but lets hope he gets into Burgers ones sooner rather than later. I think he is a 2010-11 prospect

We are not playing him because he isn't match ready yet. He's an 18 year old skinny ruckman coming off the back of a shortened preseason, you can't expect him to come in straightaway. He might not make his debut at all this year in fact.

Vickery has several years to develop before we can start questioning his quality. Sheesh some of the thoughts on this thread are more premature than madtiger's first root.

id expect you should be the first coming in to defend beav as you were all over him like a cheap suit prior to draft day..I accept we're going early but all you ever want is a sign...I mean how much lattitude did the hangmen extend JON:eek:

I don't remember anyone getting stuck into JON until at least his 2nd year. It is now 3 games into a season of Vickery's career. Also ruckman take much longer to develop than mediums. So it boggles the mind that you think it is fair to slag off Vickery now. I can understand people not liking the process of taking a ruckman early, but to dis the player himself is wrong.

I know that there is a limit on how many listed players you are able to play in the seniors. But FFS why is VIckery and Post playing in coburg seconds! Graeme Polak will not play seniors again and he is lucky to play league footy ever again but he plays Seniors for Coburg????
I could go on and on but it kills me to see our first two picks play in coburg twos.

There will obviously be changes this week.
I would love it if we played the 6 J's in defence and won.

B: JON, Jarrod (Silvester), JAKE
HB: JORDY, JAY, JOEL,

This forum would go nuts!

Hate them all, hopefully all gone by seasons end. We should be playing the C's if they're ready to go - Collins, Connors, Cogs, Cleaver and Cotchin/Cousins when ready. Tommorow will be interesting... Tambling, King, Edwards and Schulz should all be dropped. If they aren't I will lose what little faith I have left in the RFC coaching staff. Bowden skating on thin ice too. Play the kids you douchebag Wallace.

You could well be right with that 4.
Cleve's playing Coburg 2's I think but sometimes you need to just say stuff it, here, have a go, the floor is yours. I think we can safely say Cogs will start in the middle this week.
Swans players play in a sub par league when they aren't in the firsts so maybe we should play them all in the Coburg 2's to regain some form!
