Villeneuve dropped by BAR

Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve has been dropped by the BAR-Honda team, according to his manager Craig Pollock.
The Canadian, who took the title in 1997, is expected to be replaced at the BAR team next year by Japanese driver Takuma Sato at the behest of engine supplier Honda.

Pollock said Villeneuve had been dropped from the BAR-Honda team after a phone call from team managing director Dave Richards on Friday evening.

"What is so disappointing is the fact that this team was built for and around Jacques, and he underwent all sorts of trials and tribulations over the years as BAR struggled to find its place in Formula One," said Pollock.

"Jacques never wavered, and his loyalty to British American Racing was constant.

"He had other opportunities, and no one would have blamed him for going elsewhere, but he preferred to see this project through despite a car that did not live up to its expectations."

Pollock said he was not sure if Villeneuve would take part in the final race of the season in Japan on 11 October.

It has been widely reported that team test driver Sato will take over Villeneuve's role, with Honda keen for a Japanese driver to feature again in the F1 championship.

Pollock added that Villeneuve, who has had a miserable season - lying in 16th place with just six points in the drivers' championship - will now consider his options for the future over the coming days.

The Canadian has said he could not contemplate life outside F1, although he admits the Le Mans 24-hour race holds some interest for him.

Don't think he will find another F1 drive but good lick to him in the future.

Why wouldn't he find another drive?

Perhaps not next season, but it's only a matter of time.

He's a world championship winner remember. The guy can drive. He's young. He's still keen.

He has a name as well.

It's not his fault that BAR are sh|t.

If Jacques is serious about staying if F1 then he could use some of his $130 million fortune to buy the second Jaguar seat next year. I know that because he's a World Champ he probably doesn't want to suffer that indignity but it's better than standing in the paddock without a drive.

Japanese Grand Prix Peter Sauber confirms Massa for 2004

Felipe Massa will partner Giancarlo Fisichella at Sauber next season, team boss Peter Sauber confirmed on Friday.

Massa, currently a test driver with Ferrari, will return to the Swiss team with which he made his Formula One Grand Prix debut last season.

"We had one year with Felipe Massa, he was fast but a little bit young, not a lot of experience especially on the technical side,” Sauber told a press conference ahead of this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix.

"Now he has improved very well with Ferrari, he's done a lot of mileage and learned a lot on the technical side and now we will drive again with him."

Sauber admitted that the young Brazilian has yet to actually sign a contract with the team, but insisted the move was definite.

The Fisichella-Massa partnership will replace Sauber’s current all-German pairing of Nick Heidfeld and Heinz-Harald Frentzen, neither of whom has a confirmed drive for next season.

He is almost as embarassing as Yoong.

Time to retract that comment I think. ;)

He was pretty good today. Probably just sewn up the spot for next season with todays 6th placing.

He already had the drive for next season and that's why Jacque has walked out on BAR before today's race.

BTW,Sato has done well at his home track before, but he struggled everywhere else.

Perhaps. It was his home Grand Prix so I'll wait until next year to eat my words. At Jordan he had trouble keeping it on the road so he might be better off after a year as test driver.
