Well, I don't think anyone has the right to choose whether another may live or die. Also, pretty sure I didn't suggest legalising drugs. However! Neither side will convince the other, so let's just leave it, eh?

As for relaxing gun laws, easily the stupidest suggestion I've ever heard (re: MmkMrMackie). Australia has virtually no gun crime. Why create a situation in which there could be?

Well, was out in Geelong Saturday night at the Carlton and then Bended, worst I saw was two sisters having a bit of a tussle (which the knights in shining white armour - ie me and my mate - broke up).

Yeah it's quite disgusting isn't it. I'm 36 now, I remember isolated incidents occurring every now and then but I don't go out to clubs and pubs much anymore.

It's normally the young, dumb and full of c*m that cause the problems, especially when they hang around with their equally stupid dumb mates, talking about cars and the gym and how tough they are.
You picking on me again Moons???
Just kidding - 34 now and I bounced for years at places like the Chevron, and we had brawls every week. Without fail. Nothings changed - perhaps people these days are softer and getting injured easier? Or perhaps it is just getting reported more? Couple of places I worked at, it was unusual if someone didnt have a gun pulled on them over the course of weekend frivolities.
I still get out a bit, and it actually looks a lot less dangerous than it used to be. There was time when you could not even walk down King St without watching your back because of the all the bars and drunken fools. Now? No problems. well - none i have seen.

Fights at Chevron? didn't they get shut down for using metho instead of alcohol in the 'spirits'?....

Think they did it on Thursday Uni Nights.. no wonder there was brawls everyweek.

Cracking down on drugs is not the answer. There will always be a demand as there will always be people who will do drugs regardless of the law. To meet this demand there will always be a supply. They make a big fuss every time they lock someone up or make a big bust, but the reality is that for every dealer they lock up, there are countless other guys and girls doing exactly the same thing.

The drugs of choice with the majority of young Australians are marijuana and ecstasy. Believe it or not, these drugs are less harmful both to individuals and to society as a whole. Nobody has ever died from an overdose of either. The same cannot be said for alcohol, tobacco or countless other prescription drugs. People die from impurities in the drugs. The reason there are impurities in them is because the guys who are cooking them up are doing so in dirty scungy backyard labs.

If the government legalised these drugs, they could regulate what actually went in them, thereby minimising drug related deaths. If they regulated them, they could produce them in such large numbers, that they would automatically put an end to the drug trade. There is no way that a dodgy backyard chemist could compete financially with a drug company. This would put an end to much of the bullshit that we see on the streets. The cops would obviously not be wasting their time trying to enforce the government's 'war on drugs', and could actually focus on solving real crimes.

It is obvious that drugs are a major part in the violence that we see on the streets, but legalisation and government regulation is the answer - not 0 tolerance. The United States has tried implementing 0 tolerance as an answer to the drug problem, and it has failed as dismally as prohibition did with alcohol. I read a statistic the other week that should the US continue to lock up its citizens for drug crimes at the rate it currently is, by the year 2050(?) something like 85% (?) of its citizens will either be in jail, or working in some way towards supporting those who are in jail. The war on drugs is a joke and just like prohibition, it is only a matter of time before it will be forced to end.

you get my vote if you run for parliament, your spot on mate.

Ridiculous statement re legalising drugs. Morally and socially irresponsible to give people the option to make themselves incoherent and a danger to themselves and the public at large. Also no thought to the long term consequences of regular drug abuse of dope and ecstacy.

Something like that - Thursdays was the old $1 pot and $2 "basic spirit" nights........with basic being the operative word......

theyre safer and less destructive than tobacco and alcohol. when theyre pure. its all the backyard shit that gets mixed in with them thats dangerous.

have u ever had these drugs? the only danger to others would come from hugging to death. i couldnt hurt a fly when im on E.

read a book called E is for ecstacy and then base your opinion.
Not the bloody newspaper. Or your churches newsletter.

I live in Solar Dve, Whittington so as you could imagine i see things as bad as this and much much worse every day. Sad to say that i cant go for a walk down the road because im afraid ill get stabbed or shot or bashed

Heard a rumour a few years back that even the police are too scared to go down Solar Drive at night. Any truth to that?
