An awesome Aussie metal band that I've only just discovered this week despite releasing an album in 2003 is Daysend. Surprisingly very very good.

Other bands that I feel aren't as well known as deserved are:
40 Below Summer (rock/metal) - very good band, last album was fairly solid, don't think they're very well known, but should be with all the crap out there
AgaugeFor (rock) - really good Aussie band, very catchy songs without a typically mainstream sound (http://www.agaugefor.com/)
Finger Eleven (rock) - Canadian rock band, been around for a while with 3 albums, very good songwriters with some great songs
Lacuna Coil (hard rock) - Italian female-fronted band similar in sound to Evanescence except these guys have been around longer and are more talented
Melodyssey (rock/metal) - another awesome Aussie band, very good catchy tunes, unique singing (http://www.melodyssey.com/)
Nonpoint (rock/metal) - these guys have been around for a while, really really good stuff, especially their last album, awesome vocals
Skillet (christian rock) - i'm not one to dig christian music, but this band is surprising very good (their last album only), reminds of Linkin Park a fair bit - very catchy.

Against Me!

Unknown??

Most of my good mates have about 1000 Against Me t-shirts, and are experts on all things about the band. From what I've heard, they are apparently the greatest band ever to live anywhere in the universe. I know quite a few "mainstream" people that love them, I wouldn't have thought they were that unknown.

CLUTCH..soon to be releasing their 6th album..
You beat me to it. This band rules! You will either not understand this band or become addicted and convert to the cult following of CLUTCH! They have actually already released six full-length albums, one rareties album and two live albums. :)

Damnation AD are a great (now no longer) band that aren't that well known. Also the Russian metal scene has some amazing bands that most people have never heard of... maybe I'll make a post about the Russian scene...

By the way you can download Clutch demos, outtakes, live clips, rare tracks and interviews here. There are also videos on the site.

I found this on the Clutch Website.

"ROBOT HIVE/EXODUS" - (4/14/05) - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLUTCH SET TO RELEASE THEIR SIXTH STUDIO ALBUM ‘ROBOT HIVE / EXODUS’ ON JUNE 21, 2005

Co-Headlining Sounds of the Underground Tour Beginning June 24

New York, NY -- DRT recording artist Clutch are set to release their sixth studio album titled, Robot Hive / Exodus. The album was prodcued by J. Robbins (Jawbox, The Dismemberment Plan) and recorded at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, NY, and mixed at Water Music in Hoboken, NJ.

The follow-up to the acclaimed Blast Tyrant, Robot Hive / Exodus firmly implants Clutch as one of the most talented hard rock bands making music today. With wildly creative songs that feature amazing musicianship and thought-provoking lyrics, Robot Hive / Exodus solidifies Clutch’s hard rock legend status. The band will showcase their new material on the upcoming ‘Sounds of the Underground’ tour which they are co-headlining along with Lamb of God. The tour begins June 24th in Lowell, MA, and will cross the entire country through the first week of August.

For anyone who likes Sparta, Strung Out or Hot Water Music... I seriously recommend you check out these guys.
They are from Melbourne and just released a debut ep. Check out the mp3s.

Another awesome Melbourne band is Horsell Common. These guys have more of a rock sound, but they will be huge soon... for anyone that likes Shi Had or similar bands.
