Good post. It's purely driven by people who think being anti-authoritarian makes them more intelligent. Plus as always the negative minority are louder than the unfussed majority.
Yes it takes a special kind of intelligence to always blindly accept what an 'authority' tells you without so much as a critical thought ever crossing the mind.

I disagree, doing that would be incredibly unintelligent.

That's the Public Relations message he has the media churning out for him, that you have obviously swallowed unquestioningly.

Or it could be based on fact while you've had your mind warped by teenagers and other Bigfooty malcontents. I guess the tv rights deal is a pile of sh*t though right? I'm rather keen on the muitcultural element. But it's not for everyone, evidently.

For example he denied the existence of tanking.
Tanking was obvious to everyone, except apparently Vlad.
This makes him either corrupt or extremely stupid.
Either way he needs be sacked with some urgency.
If it is proven that Melbourne tanked, I don't think his role with the AFL (or any other business for that matter) is tenuous.
Tanking occurs in every sport with a draft (especially ones where the team with the worst record is guaranteed the #1 pick). You could replace Vlad with the Pope, and you'd still have the same result; teams would still tank.

Can't believe this garbage about Demetriou being a turd for trialling a priority pick system. Go back to the VFL era and see how many clubs went for unbelievable stretches without making it into the finals. It eventually killed off Fitzroy and South Melbourne. And yes, I realise Demetriou wasn't the first to institute levelling policies in terms of the national draft and reverse order picks, but he certainly has presided over one of the most even competitions and does what he can to promote it.

When the AFL were advised the priority pick system was too big a leg-up, they pulled the plug.

Whatever miniscule hiccups there have been along the way, the balance sheet is bloody good. Massive growth in revenue which has spilled into higher player wages, assistance to struggling clubs, eveness in terms of teams making the finals with greater regularity and some very sound and inclusive social policies which help grow the games appeal. Take a look at the swamp that is the NRL and get back to me.

I had figured out that Vlad was corrupt well before I ever went on BigFooty. Yeah the TV rights deal is worth a lot of money. Do you know how Demetriou made it worth the extra money? He did it by corrupting the fixture. If you judge everything on money he is doing a great job. If you base your judgement of him on what the media tells you he is doing a great job. However, if you look at the big picture and the way he operates objectively you will see that he is destroying the AFL. It might not be apparent to many people for 20 years but when we look back it will be.

I don't think anyone in this thread has directly criticised the priority pick system. They have criticised Demetriou's denial that tanking was occurring. He put his head in the sand to a major issue in the game, and he should be rightly condemned for that.

Yet Vlad denied it was happening.
Corrupt or stupid?

But he'll still have his hand out for his multimillion dollar pay packet and god knows what sort of bonus, while ending the careers of people whose corruption he facilitated through burying his head.

If someone who is paid millions every year to run an organisation can't see what is obvious to everyone inside and outside that organisation, then he needs to be sacked.
Obviously.

Whose careers exactly?

Demetriou is a fantastic administrator. My pet hate if the Laws of the Game Committee, but that's my only beef with the man which he can't totally be blamed for. He's been unbelievably good for the game in terms of finances and social policies.

Bloke is an immense sports administrator.

Best in Australia by a country mile, and one of the best in the world.

"Whaddya lookin' at? You're all a bunch of ****in' arseholes. You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your ****in' fingers and say, 'That's the bad guy.'"

It was his nickname within the football industry. Not sure who invented it but it was around before Sheedy said it.

He rushed the introduction of 2 new teams rather than play the waiting game for Victorian clubs to relocate for one, and only one reason.
His bonus goes up with total attendance and advertising revenue.
He has been prepared to cost the league (us) millions of dollars, and create a completely uneven playing field and basically fix match results for a few hundred thousand in his own bank account.
A good administrator would have done things entirely differently.

Those who think he is a good administrator would also be big admirers of Alan Bond's business acumen.

When it comes to Vlad, the only thing he is concerned about is how many millions he can leaver out of the AFL into his own bank account.

Only one reason ... are you sure?

Nothing to do with getting another AFL team into the biggest city in Australia where the market share they could generate (if GWS can become a finalist and more supported) would generate higher TV ratings and thus increase the next TV rights...

Same with placing a team into the Gold Coast, still the fastest growing area in the country.

Vlad has issues as all administrators but to say its straight money grab is ridiculous. Be thankful for what we have, look at the NRL at the moment. A rudderless ship that gets carried away with little bullshit stories like Izzy and treats them like they've won a war.

To not deny tanking existed would have meant accusing clubs of tanking, which would be a somewhat tricky thing to do without the required evidence to back up the claim. I bet he's surprised that Melbourne went about it in such a calculated and planned way instead of just utilising the tried-and-tested 'nudge nudge wink wink' method.
