Vodafone Arena becomes Hisense Arena

Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust today confirmed that Melbourne’s premier indoor sports arena will have a new name from 1 July 2008 following the announcement by Hisense of its new naming rights partnership.

Hisense have entered into a six (6) year naming rights deal with Melbourne Park which grants them the right to "Hisense Arena" (formerly known as Vodafone Arena). The multi million dollar deal is an exciting partnership for Melbourne Park, sport and the precinct.

What a joke. "Slam of Asia and Pacific" it is indeed, might as well change the name from Australian Open... :rolleyes:

Why not name it after one of our great players? I'm just annoyed the naming rights and sponsorship is a Chinese company, and I know it's the Slam of Asia Pacific but it's OUR Grand Slam and slowly but surely we're losing every bit of ownership.

I agree it should be named after a player, hopefully Rod Laver Arena is never renamed. Vodafone is a UK company tho so it doesn't really make much difference that its changed names. All stadiums are doing this sort of shit these days, it sucks, but thats just the way the worlds going. Have you listened to Triple M footy lately? Everything from the stats to the scoreboard is sponsored by someone! :thumbsdown:
