Votes vs. Essendon

Only saw the second half (and the highlights of the first half), so I won't award votes, but I did want to say how impressed I have become with Masten. Obviously, his groin is healing nicely because the change in his game has been enormous. It's now got to the point that I am delighted to see him with the ball across half forward. That pass to Wilson, on the lead in the first quarter, is the sort of thing forwards have wet dreams about. Good to see him using the ball precisely by foot.

5. LeCras
4. Ebert
3. Embley
2. Kennedy
1. S. Selwood

HM's to Priddis, Swift, Adam Selwood and Houlihan.

5. Priddis - Outstanding stamina and hunger for the 4 quarters.

4. A. Selwood - Consistently positions himself where the ball is going to. If only more WCE players could read the play as well.

3. LeCras - Possibly his best game for the WCE

2. Glass - Week in, week out saves plenty of goals at the back as well as set up the likes of Hurn (much better this week) to use long, attacking kicks

1. Houlihan - Showed great dash and backed his judgement. I really liked his desire to run and help his team mates. Looked hungry for more chances at the top level.

Was a thing of beauty and he was kicking across his body too! Just Gorgeous. I can't speak for the forwards but I know its the sort of delivery into the forward line that I have wet dreams about.... :)

To quote the ABC commentators after that pass "poor delivery by Masten, really made Wilson work hard for it".

I really do wonder sometimes. I don't think you could say Masten missed one target by foot yesterday, yet they were still rubbishing him post match about his disposal. Will he be one of those players who gets a reputation early and carries it for his whole career?

I often returned home from Subi Oval to read some commentators review of the game I've just witnessed and thought ... 'was he at the same game I was at?'

Easily the worst commentators on TV are that peanut Quartermaine and his dullard sidekick Walls. Throw in the bloke with the bloke with the disproportionate head 'Huddo' and you've got the Larry, Curly & Moe of all commentators.

I believe Masten is coming along nicely as is Ebert and Scott Selwood.

There's an old saying. 'An empty vessel makes the most noise'. I can't help thinking this every time Robert Walls opens his mouth.

5. Mark LeCras
4. Brad Ebert
3. Chris Masten
2. Tom Swift
1. Andrew Embley

Honorable mention to Tim Houlihans last quarter. Must of got 10 stats, all efficient and crucial

is that ken judge?? he is a toool with no idea, barracks against us and dockers imo.

wouldn' worry one bit what he says.

5 LeCras - All class. Nothing more needs to be said
4 Ebert - really tough in the clinches and looks to be the next Pendlbury, not that quick but always has time to use it and never looks hurried when in possession
3 Brown - Great first half, really good game
2 Swift - breakout game. Going to be a super user of the pill
1 S. Selwood - really loved this tough little nuts game, never says die

HM Embley, A Selwood, Hurn (got his kicking boot on in the 2nd half), Glass (great leadership down back as always

5. Ebert - He is a 90% quality Gibbs with 10x the hardness, needs to be more consistent - when he plays well (this level) we seem to be shoo-in's for the 4 points.
4. Priddis - Very strong game over the ball and good ball use
3. Naitanui - great tap work, ran with the ball and his use & protection in close was excellent. 15 disposals, bunch of HO's and great body work/defensive work in close
2. Masten - not sure there is a better play maker in the team compared to this bloke - huge work rate and his short kicking is the best at the club.
1. Swift - explosive/agile/deft - NEEDS more experience but for a 6 gamer I am very happy with his progress compared to his earlier games. I look forward to seeing what a summer in the gym can do for his skinny frame, seems a very natural inside midfielder so hopefully he can build that core strength to compete with the big boys.

Special mention of Rosa & Houlihan on the wings - I absolutely love these 2 in that role, pair of 6'2 run all day types with good kicks and solid pace to push into space when others gas.

Glass/Hurn/LeCras/Embley were also great but they played more than 50 games so they don't count.

Brown looked good as always, could be our very own Nathan Bock within a few years - so much better than his brother at the pies.

So has Priddis and yet you inexplicably gave him second best on ground!;)

You're joking?!

That was an absolute ripper of a pass. A low, fast kick hitting him right on the tit.

Pre game in their preview they were giving it to Masten about his kicking. Then he nailed that kick. I guess they were hoping no-one was watching, but rather listening to them giving examples that supported their views rather than what was actually happening.

Didnt hear their game call but can I assume Ken Judge was involved?

LOL what does Wirra have to do to get votes around here.

5. Lecras - get some endurance son and the AFL is yours to dominate.
4. Wirra - How good (and important) was it to see a crumber up forward. All class
3. Swift - love this guy's potential, just nerves and body size holding him back temporarily. Hill and Rich will have nothing on him in 2 years.
2. Masten - I still don't know how his kicking was ever questioned. Technique has always been good, just composure was hurting him early.
1. Naita - Must already be in the top 5-6 ruckmen currently and he's not even out of second gear.

HM - Glass, Embley, Hurn, Kennedy

Dont think Swift should be in the votes....made enough errors to outweigh a lot of his good stuff but that can be expected.

5 LeCras
4 Priddis
3 Ebert
2 Butler
1 Wirrpanda

HM to Kennedy and Houlihan. Glass was solid as usual.

Such as? He had 3 clangers and 2 of those were free kicks

Finally got to see the first half, thanks to BigPond.

5. LeCras -although he butchered a couple of kicks which is unusual
4. Swift - the double bounce, goal otr from 50 gets him moved up a couple of spots
3. Butler - good defensively, great at setting up play
2. Glass - massive presence down back
1. Wirrpanda - delicious

Does Kennedy have the best defensive/harrassing skills of any key forward in the comp?

That kick was exceptional. Loved his little weave out to the wing, he then swung in board and flicked the kick of the instep. If he was working hard it's because he was trying to aviod the spoil. LeCras kick to Kennedy, now he really had to motor for that one.

Certainly if effort was part of the calculation he'd be up there. For a big guy like that he really does put in hell of an effort to chase, harass, spoil etc. I reckon Rioli (if playing ofrward) would have most backs shitting themselves, so would Johnson/Chapman, in terms of big men though I reckon Riewoldt is doing this exceptionally well this year. He's got the endurance to keep doing it too and to continue to have impact on the game in later stages of the game. The few times I've seen Kennedy live (to really appreciate his work rate at chasing/harrassing) he just seems to be absolutely spent by the fourth quarter and you'd think it would be hard to have a strong influence once you've hit that wall. Hopefully once he builds a bit more endurance he will only get better.

BTW, I think you have to put your votes in by Tuesday to have them count.
