I rang the club this afternoon and asked if I was registered to vote. I was told I wasn't, so the club is going to send out something for me to sign and i'll be registered.
My registration seems to have stuck, which is a relief. It's really disappointing if other registered voters from previous years aren't being automatically carried over to the present.

And it's also annoying that you have to be financial for the '07 season just to vote in the '06 AGM.

I stand corrected. I'm also rather surprised - that means we have only 12,000 potential voting members, and apparently only 3,000 of them are registered. That and a total of ~30k members in 2006 means that's the equivalent of 10% of the potential voting population.

If government elections were decided on 10% turnouts democracy would be in huge trouble. It's numbers like this that make for unrepresentative outcomes.

Here's hoping we get a result we can all live with.

3000 registered members out of 12000 isn't so bad. You have to remember that with in that 12000 there are a lot of junior members and Blue members that are inelible to vote.
I spoke to someone at the club today and they said that about 20% of their members are under 18 years of age and another 15-20% are only blue members. So with that said it's more like 3000 registered voters out of 7000.

And as we hit 30000 members I'm sure that more people will be registered to vote so there will be a lot more than 10% of members registered to vote.

That would sound about right gns. One would hope that given the state of the club at the moment, we might get a few extra members signed up in January so they can have their say at the upcoming AGM.
But do they need to have already signed up by now? With numbers this low I can see the elections decided primarily on proxies.

I'm not really sure what the "ins and outs" are AD, but if you look at it on face value, anyone who signs up to be a 2007 member ought to have voting rights at the AGM, even if they only sign up a week or so before the election.

I hope that's right. The more people voting, the better.

They said on SEN early today that it is only members who have signed up and been processed for 07 at the time of the AGM will be able to vote.

Thanks for that Dave. I renewed mine just before Christmas, so I should be pretty safe.

Thanks to Jack Worrall over on TC

According to the membership department (I've just called them), if you were registered to vote as a 2006 member, and have renewed your membership for 2007, you're automatically entitled to vote at the AGM.

In order to be eligible for voting at the AGM, you must be financial by 16 January (next Tuesday), and make sure your registration is still current.
