VR: Is it the next big thing or the next big gimmick?

The Gear VR stuff feels like an over-hyped stepping stone to the real game. The medical warnings that come with the current crop of VR products are worrying, though they are largely ignored by buyers and sellers alike.

Of course there are going to be physical effects, we've all been told for years not to sit too close to screens, and not to watch things in the dark because it strains your eyes............... nek minit we're strapping a bright enclosed screen against our eyeballs. Just wait till the faux-outrage when some clown caves his own skull in against his coffee table because VR made him loose his balance.

It's cool stuff, but people need to be conscious that using it for extended periods may not be particularly healthy.
