probably our poorest performance of the year, but a win is a win, and it was comfortable in the end. had the dees not been so accurate and we were more accurate at the start of the game, we'd be celebrating a huge victory. best thing is that we played below our best and still won easily. Dees were at their ABSOLUTE best today, and showed a lot.

Vlas and Ellis were faultless and showed how good they will be for the next 10-15 years.

Positives
  • We won
  • Ellis and Vlastuin....guns:hearts:
Negatives
  • The umpiring...How much head high contact did Melbourne get away with?
  • Melbourne are an awful awful team and at times we made them look ok.
Changes
Out: Nahas, Stephenson
In: Maric, White
White and Nahas have pretty much identical stats for the game... one played a full 4 quarters the other was the sub.

white was already in, so nahas would have to go out for someone else

:)
He's nowhere near the form he was in last year. A concern.
Different role nackers , no coincidence at all that likes if Ellis and Vlaustin are getting plenty of it when Cotch is quieter . Sure he won't mind if they are putting even more time into him and allow others to shine and get the job done .

On a side note WTF are those who were calling for Ellis' head ?
Don't be shy there were plenty of you.

This is the type of game we needed going into next week - not a 20 goal blowout where we're under no pressure at all. Melbourne had great intensity at the contest today, it was a good hit out.

Very confident going into next week :thumbsu:

From my POV i wasnt calling for his head or to be dropped, just needs to stop lifting his head when getting the ball then fumbling. Contructive criticism thats all. He was better at that today.

Well done boys, hard fought win against desperate opposition.

Posters saying during the week we'd win by 100 points easily are, surprise surprise, the ones who are disappointed with the effort today. AGAIN I STRESS the issue, and your disappointed, is not a result of us playing poorly, because we didn't. It's a result of you completely disrespecting Melbourne. Which is your problem, not Richmond's. The whinging on this board today was probably the worst I've ever seen. Harden up you lot.

I reckon the way Melbourne played today they would have pushed a lot of clubs. They ran in numbers, applied plenty of pressure, used the footy pretty well. Had they played like that last week they would have beaten the Suns IMO.

It was a good victory, we played well. I'm going elsewhere now because this thread will inevitably result in more whinging and moaning.

Oh and Ellis and Vlastuin are gold Jerry, gold!
****ing great post. :thumbsu:
I agree with. EVERY. SINGLE. WORD.

I'd add that Melbourne were always going to come out firing (as much as they could) this week. Also we are not a top team, FFS we haven't ever beaten GC, and as such we cannot take for granted putting any team to the sword.

Time for some posters to reassess their grasp of reality.

Serious? 18 posessions and had the most score involvements on the ground? If he kicked a bit straighter at goal he would of had an awesome game.

Crazy post by CC. Vicks played a great game only let down by inaccuracy in frnt of goal.

This. Sometimes you watch him and he does amazing work one on one and hit the contest hard and then once in awhile he will look around him and fumble or give off a bad handball. Its just about ironing out those poor efforts as much as possible.

Not sure where the claims come from that it was our poorest performance for the year, we were well ahead n every key indicator, with exception of tackles 65-68, wont lose sleep over and changers that Melb trumped us in too. We need to improve our finishing work in front of goal but believe you me if every game we can play out with such an overwhelming I50, clearance and contested footy we'll WIN most weeks.....Nexxxxt

What a truckload of rubbish this is.

We take it and walk to the Dreamtime game with a win behind us.
Even if Melbourne aren't playing for their Coach, they're playing for their next one.
And we very rarely put bad sides away. That's just our lot.
But it's good to know we were never going to lose.
And it's good to know Ellis and Vlastuin are our future leaders.
Have a beer and enjoy the week boys.
:)

Quality post.

Oh, wait. No. It's actually a weak arsed piece of crap with no reasoning behind it. Keep banging your head boyo.

Agree entirely and the work rate by Ellis and Vlas showed many others up simply by being prepared to run and create.
Nahas won't get another game on the back of that effort. McGuane not leading at the ball as hard as he was so isn't "demanding the ball" like he did in the early rounds, maybe a spot back in the 2's and Edwards get his turn? Grigg was bordering on lazy for mine and Delidio whilst good needs to do more to become genuinely elite.
We will be better with Maric back next week.

One of those arvo's, but to Melbourne's credit their effort was pretty good.

Ins - Newman, Maric and god I hope Grimes is right.

Outs - Batchelor, Big O, Dea

Could Lonergan be an option with Edwards more time up forward with Nahas out? Weren't good out of the centre today, although Maric should help.

I missed the first qtr but I'm with everybody about Ellis and Vlas....both going from strength to strength.
Thought Lids in particular played through his tag and provided a lot of grunt.
Cotch good to have him back
Edwards seemed quieter than previous games - noticed he was being tagged. lacked his input around the ball
Martin - good goals
Jackson - gee he's been consistent
Foley - a run with role...interesting, was like a practice match
Morris, Houli - solid at half back
Chaplin - a good game
King, JR reasonably good games

Rance - a bit shaky, turnover kicks again
Dea - didn't do much, (not sure about his opponent)
Batch....meh, not much impact either
Grigg..his usual poor effort (6 minutes out we are chipping the ball around - he turns it over, they goal....His crap kicks for goal)
Orren..couldn't get his hand to it. Not much input around the ground either...I was stoked with his game last week but today was crap. Vickery did better in the ruck
Vicks ...good ruck effort, but accuracy
clear.png

Nahas no impact, nor McG
White was better

Changes: Orren, Dea, Batch, Nahas
Ivan, Newman, Petts, White

Very unispiring today. Not so much the margin but the way we went about it. Grigg is really starting to Sh1t me. Is there any danger of kicking the ball to the advantage of our blokes not their opponents?????
Yeah,He did it what 2-3 times. What was he thinking.

Hardwick isnt the answer. We're going backwards. 5 wins against Carlton, Saints, WB, Port and Shitbourne.

A disgrace of a game today, disgrace. If we were ruthless, we'd headhunt the best coach possible. Hardwick has not shown us anything to convince us that he knows what we're doing.
