this is the main question that has been running through my head. i'm a bad loser. Be it pre-season or for premiership points, i get grumpy when we lose. we haven't lost many games in pre-season so march has been a pretty happy month football wise the last few seasons. so i haven't had to bring out the old "its only pre-season" when we've lost.

for the record. i dont seem that worried this march about winning. i'm looking forward to round 1. for the real stuff. to judds first game, for stevo to march about like a general, to kruezers first goal in navy blue, for the muprh and gibbs show.

but then again. my blue boys will finally be back on the telly. and i'm so looking forward to that.

oh.........forgot the threads main objective..... we'll win against port. if not. its only pre-season.

I wouldnt mind seeing us make it to the 3rd round of the NAB cup... Reason: Judd's return... we would get all the media hype off his return instead of having to deal with it in round 1... cos he could end up playing his first game for us in Woop Woop if we don't make it to the third round.

With our best full back and back pocket out too, in Wilson & Thurstans and possibly Ebert.

Mind you it should still be a good game, our list is starting to run pretty deep these days in all areas except for ruckmen so should be a good contest, but this time of year is all about who is sharper and I'd expect you guys to come out on top in that area and probably end up winning by a couple goals.

Don't care about the result, just wanna see a Carlton player hit a target. Haven't seen that for a good 5 years. I got a bad vibe from the South Africa game. - Like we were the same sub-standard team that played under Denis Pagan. We were missing tackles and kicking like a bastard. I need to see that this team has what it takes... and for God's sake, I never wanna see a capitulation again. Our players aren't strong enough mentally to handle it.

I really dont get the whole superstition we have developed about winning pre-season. Many clubs dont care for the competition but winning a few games early in the season for struggling on-field clubs like us, and Richmond, and Melbourne is gold.

There is no real logical link between performing well pre-season and having a down year. Other clubs, those that dont take it seriously, are ALWAYS going to get going at some stage and if we arent good enough then then we dont deserve to win.

But at pre season some clubs seem to have a full list and are flying, like Adelaide, and winning in itself shouldnt be seen as a problem.

if you only have 1 game plan and you have all your big guns firing then winning the NAB cup is about as good as you can hope for.

I hope we go out there and really try to win against quality opposition and a very good coach in mark Williams. What he has been able to do with that list, time and time again, is a great achievement and he manages to get them up and firing all of the time.

Should be a good game.

well I'm going to check out the blues on Saturday evening.
We looked good last year when pagan was gone and ratts
was able to implement a new style.
We were moving the ball around well and things looked promising.
My only concern would be fitness on our behalf as port are
usually very disciplined in that area.
The other thing is it's gonna be around the 38 degree
mark and humid on Saturday so the conditions will be far from ideal.
Just a hit out, and I'm keen to see how some of the new lads perform.

but this is what i want to see

- a Contest for 4 quarters by the blues
- Some of the youngsters showing there skills, and taking on opposition and not being timid or overawed by the occasion
- a set structure, players playing in one position for most of the game, no plugging holes in the team because we may be missing some of our guns. The youngsters need to learn and take on a role, even if it is the hard way
- Targets being hit
- Play with pride
- Kreuzer kicking a couple
- Gibbs & Murphy BOG for the blues

Given that Ackland isnt playing - the ruck will be contested by kids, on both sides:

Deluca & Giles vs. Hampson & Kreuzer (maybe Cloke occaisionaly)

Clokey has gone under the radar a little and im keen for him
to have an impact this year.
Gibbs is ready to explode. I used to watch him play for
the glenelg tigers (go bays) and he's just an absolute gun.
A couple of my mates played
against him for the port magpies and said he was totally untouchable.
If and when he's given the chance he's gonna be awesome.

i'm gonna be there saturday night, and really just want to see some skill and some endeavour from our kids

what i'm looking most forward to is seeing how the Kreuze goes after all the talk about his speed, endurance, skills and hunger

if we win that'd be a bonus, but just getting through with no injuries and some good signs that the young blokes like aisake, hammer, jacko, jammo are improving will do me

i was ganna point out the same thing, im of the same opinion, but i'll get over it if we lose
