A lad by the name of Richardson in our U18s squad has been BOG in the last two practice games. Does anybody know anyhting about him? We might have a couple of lowish picks in the Nov. draft and everybody has been touting the virtues of Franklin, but this Richardson sounds like he could be something.
Is it possible that he is the son of a certain Richardson who played for Swan Districts, as well as some VFL team? He was a super star. Is Richardson eligible for father/ son rule if that's the case?
Also if someone could give some info on what position he plays, and what size he is, it would be appreciated.
Cheers!

No relation to that Richardson. No chance of F/S

This from Footygoss

He might be just 17, but Paul Richardson has already experienced plenty of success when it comes to football achievements.

PAUL RICHARDSON
Team- Swan Districts (colts, reserves)
D.O.B. -25 May 1986
Height -183cm
Weight -84kg
Position- half back

2003 has seen Richardson play against Ireland in the under 18’s as a part of his AIS membership, compete against the nation’s best in the WA under 18’s squad, and play regularly for Swan Districts, all while doing his TEE.

Richardson began playing football for his school, Mazenod College, and then Swan Districts colts and reserves.

“My dad and my brother used to kick the footy in the backyard when I was young, and when I got to about nine I just thought I’d go and play.”

Richardson described his time with Swan Districts as enjoyable, but not without its challenges.

“I suppose it has been a bit up and down sometimes,” he said. “When I started off with the development squads, we didn’t tend to win too many games, but the last couple of years we have been doing alright.”

Born in Adelaide before moving to WA when he was seven, Richardson is a proud Adelaide Crows supporter.

“At this stage I wouldn’t mind playing for any club, but if I went to Adelaide I think I’d enjoy it,” he said.

Usually a defender, Richardson said his strength lies in his discipline.

“I’d say I’m fairly disciplined. I stick to my man. I’d like to think I have a fair bit of pace and that my skills are pretty good.”

Richardson said playing for WA in the under 18s was a good experience but felt he didn’t perform his best.

“From my personal point of view I was a little bit disappointing. I didn’t feel like I played exceptionally or anything.”

“I didn’t put myself under any extra pressure there. You knew they (talent scouts) would be watching but you just try to put it in the back of your mind and play your best.”

Richardson decided not to attend the national draft camp because of year 12 exams, but is eligible to enter the draft this year.

He said he would prioritize football as a career, but has plans to study further if football didn’t work out.

“I’d like to see myself playing footy in the future. I’d like to think I’d get there,” he said. “It would be good to go to uni and get a degree. Maybe something like engineering.”

Richardson

Thanks for that West Coast Ste. He sounds just like what we need. A tight disciplined half back with pace. I hope we get him. I have heard that Eagles will try their darnest to get Franklin from the Perth Club. I think if the Eagles managed to pick up Franklin, Morton under the f/s rule and Richardson, it would be a good draft for us.
Here's hoping!

I would love for us to pick up Franklin but I doubt that he will slip past the first 2 picks in the draft.

I doubt that we need Richardson as we already have B Jones, Waters, Nicoski, Selwood, Butler, R Jones, Green and Chick who can be used in that position. You can only have so many Half Back Flankers and I would be more inclined to take someone like Callum Burges in the 4th or 5th round of the draft.

Morton will be a great pickup for us especially as it will only take a 3rd round pick. A bargain in anyones language.

Talking Footy on 7 is going to be looking at the top 10 kids next week, will be interesting viewing with us looking like having a top 10 pick this year.

Richo will probably play as a centreman for Wa at Nationals. He hasn't been playin Colts as he was allowed to play Seniors this year. Will probably be the Captain for the !*'s
