Late on the 1st day it's NSW on top - 3/348. Must be a belter of a batting strip.
Highlight of the day was a 264 opening partnership before Mail was dismissed for 90. Slater was dismissed for 203.
Go Slats.:) :)

WA will never be any good while they continue to import players.

It is a travesty that astate with such a proud heritige of producing world class fast bowlers have seen fit to impots hacks like Nicholsen , Williams , Wilson and many others at the expense of their home grown products.

When did Brad Williams become a hack?

When did Brad Williams become a hack?

Averaged high 30s in his seasons for Victoria, before his long injury lay-off when he was trying to bowl faster than the speed of light, and going for many runs in the process. He's slowed down a little and gained more control, but still I'd be curious to see his bowling analysis comparing the fast bouncy WACA to other pitches.

WA dismissed for 110 and following on - where the hell did this sudden form turnaround for NSW come from?

Paul Wilson is one of Australian one-day domestic crickets greatest wicket takers.

Not for the first time this season, and not for the first time vs NSW either, WA have experienced a case of "three out, all out". Last seven wickets fell for 44 runs, last five wickets for 14 runs.

Casson, Thorp and Nicholson have been rotated throught the 7-8-9 slots without any effect. Playing Campbell as a batsman/keeper does give the top six some depth, but when Martyn, Langer and Gilchrist are missing they really do need one extra.

I guess it's difficult dropping the two worst batsmen (Angel and Clark) to bolster the batting when they are the two best bowlers. Nicholson is a handy batsman - a good number 9 but an average number 8 (and a shocking number 7) - and a good bowler. Thorp is described as an all-rounder in articles/dossiers I have read... perhaps not at this level? Has Casson done anything since his debut game?

NSW are chasing a modest total of 182 and have lost an early wicket, but I don't see them losing this. Plenty of batting to come. S.Waugh and Clarke in particular are a class above Shield cricket, and Katich & M.Waugh have been very consistent in the second half of the season after being scratchy at the start. Obviously Slater is also seeing the ball well with his 204 in the first dig, and 10 off 10 balls so far this dig.

Not quite. They were 3/76, then 489 all out.

Four out I should have said :D... 3/445 before Rogers was dismissed.

My point is that, like in NSW's narrow victory in the corresponding fixture a few weeks ago, WA looked to be well on top but lost a lot of wickets quickly. Chasing 299 for victory in that match, WA were 3/240 and within 14 overs had been collapsed to be bowled out for 296. The same batsmen from 7 to 11 as in this match.

Can't be stuffed doing the research, but I'm curious how runs made by WA's last 5 partnerships in each innings compare to that of other teams.

Some teams might be fooled into thinking that because their top 5-6 is strong and stable, they will do the job for the whole 11. Joke as one might about England's Test team, their top 5-6 is quite strong...but if Stewart's the last batsman in at 6 they get shown up.

crap crap crap crap CRAP!!!!

SR Waugh lbw Nicholson - 2

NSW 3/25

2 LBW's at the WACA for a 6 foot 6 inch bowler

NSW fell over the line by 2 wickets after Mark Waugh farmed the strike well enough to ensure Stuart McGill didn't have to face a ball.
But yet again, chasing a small total causes the yips. And it would have been a disaster to lose after following on. Oh well, an outright win's a win and keeps NSW in the race for the finals if we can fluke an outright against Queensland next week.

All New South Wales have to do is equal or better whatever Victoria do against Western Australia.
