You've made your feeling well know about how bad you think the WACA facilities are but it's not a major factor in turning people away. The Big Bash and Ashes sellouts shows that people will come to the WACA when good games on. The basketball last night was a night game so was better timed for people who finished work. Plus like the AFL you'll have season ticket holders who'll be more likely to turn up to a game that they've already paid for in advance. The WACA has two ODI's in the space of two days, so rather than taking Friday off work or pulling the kids out of school people will just go to the Sunday game. If there was no game on Sunday then the Friday ODI would have been closer to a sellout.

I don't disagree with what you've said, but I was responding to a claim that an ODI v South Africa would only get 8,000 at the new stadium. Clearly it wouldn't no matter when you played it. I don't think Perth people are any less into cricket than, say, Adelaide people, but the facility here does turn people off signficantly. Guarantee people a decent seat out of the sun and you'll increase crowds. You just can't do that at the WACA.

for some an early mark Fri afternoon, but why a 11.15 start ?
11.15am is 2.15pm in Sydney, which means it's the same time as the Sydney/Canberra/Melbourne/Hobart ODIs start. Similarly ODIs in Adelaide usially start at 1.45pm and they start at 1.15pm in Brisbane.
Channel 9 then can broadcast the Syd/Can/Melb/Hob news at 6pm in the dinner break.

If yesterdays game was to be played at the new stadium then it would have suffered a similar crowd due to the same reasons that the crowd at the WACA suffered, being the time slot, day and the fact there's another game Sunday. Maybe a rise up to 9-10k but I really think you're overestimating the number of people who would suddenly come out of the shelters to go to see a game at the new stadium.

Gee thanks for that, but it was a Friday, a working day.

how were the ratings?

I agree. Given it was a working day and the day after was a Saturday, I'd have scheduled it to start at about 3.45 Sydney, so it would be on telly through to about 11.45. That'd be 12.45-8.30 Perth (early "day/night" instead of "day/evening"). Then this game today, make that a "day" game in Perth, 10-5.45, making it 1-8.45 in Sydney, perfect for not being up too late before work tomorrow.

No idea of the ratings. Perth Test we all know gets good ratings. Given these are somewhat meaningless ODIs in a World Cup summer, they'd be down. But maybe not as down as what they get in Melb/Syd next Friday/Sunday. Also the series could be over by Wednesday in Canberra (hopefully but hopefully not).

CA are too keen to let Channel 9 put the news in the dinner break. If I were CA I'd be more keen to get the game simulcast on HD, and then at 6pm whatever state you're in the SD channel can do the news, no problems. But given the AFL can't get all their games in HD I'd be surprised if CA could.

$100+ to watch the cricket in a place that really is a hole in terms of supporter's facilities terms in a state where employment is declining.

Nethertheless ICC/CA are vindicated in denying Perth the opportunity to host big WC matches.

that is a rip off

In perspective BBL season tickets are under $150 for most punters. While the scorchers are playing well no wonder those events are getting more bums on seats.

So... are we going to have this argument every time the WACA hosts an international game.. for the next 3-4 years while the new stadium is built?

The Prices are a joke, I can buy a ticket for the World Cup Quarter Final at Adelaide Oval, for $50 (level 1 Eastern stand) & the same seat for the T20 Intl cost $90!

Yes, as there is a chance that the WACA will still host some matches due to the reluctance to move to the new stadium.

11k today. Disappointing crowd considering it was a Sunday in perfect conditions and a game against a great ODI team. Was at the game and thought the crowd was closer to 15k and was surprised when the figure came up on the screen. Members was full but the peasants side suffered. Sign of the decline of ODIs I say, as those who aren't cricket tragics ignore the 50 over game for T20s.

More reason IMO for the WA Cricket Association to keep Tests/ODIs/Shield/One-Day Domestic cricket at the WACA and only move T20Is and Scorchers games to the new stadium.

Too many ODIs on offer this season.

Be worth every cent IF you were a sports fan versus a would be event goer - employment is declining you say, & the effect on a crowd, hello, take the battery from that thing in your bag & stick it in your abacus. Shallow Az, bloody shallow...
It's a shocking stadium. This keeps people away.

Not one cricket fan, and very few theatre goers.
Shocking stadium, fair dinkum princess !!

The ground is an embarrassment. I know as is a welfare state but their airport and sports grounds put perth to shame.

But please don't send me back!

Fair point, but at least the upgrade of the airport and new stadium are going full pelt ahead.

As for the WACA, sounds like a Status Quo song ............................. down down.

The Government has no obligation to the WACA ground as they dont own it, and they've ruled out any funding as they're building a new one across the river.

I hope the WA cricket shifts to the new oval

it is just a shame the new oval isn't being built in the CBD
