G'Day All,

Wanted to let you know I've just published a history of the VFL-AFL Night Series covering the period 1956-1987.

This includes full details of all matches played by WAFL clubs in the AFC era of the series (Escort Championships/Sterling Cup/Foster's Cup), including quarter-by-quarter scores, best players and goalkickers.

Each series the WAFL participated in can be found via these links:

1979 - https://www.hardballget.net/afl-npm-1979-afc-escort-championships.html
1980 - https://www.hardballget.net/afl-npm-1980-afc-escort-championships.html
1981 - https://www.hardballget.net/afl-npm-1981-afc-escort-championships.html
1982 - https://www.hardballget.net/afl-npm-1982-afc-escort-championships.html
1983 - https://www.hardballget.net/afl-npm-1983-afc-sterling-cup.html
1984 - https://www.hardballget.net/afl-npm-1984-afc-sterling-cup.html
1985 - https://www.hardballget.net/afl-npm-1985-afc-fosters-cup.html

There's also series records (including each WAFL club's W-L record) and leading goalkickers for each series (including Claremont's Phil Krakouer in 1980):

Details of the four NFL series played 1976-1979 can also be found here as well:

https://www.hardballget.net/npm-nfl-1976-wills-cup.html
https://www.hardballget.net/npm-nfl-1977-ardath-cup.html
https://www.hardballget.net/npm-nfl-1978-escort-cup.html
https://www.hardballget.net/npm-nfl-1979-escort-cup.html

A ton of forgotten WAFL history there, including some big wins over the VFL and SANFL clubs. Enjoy!

Well done.

From my quick glance, some spelling errors with players names, but it gets the message across.

Thanks Masai.

Re: spelling errors with player names, all corrections will be gratefully accepted (either through here or via PM).

When transcribing all these match summaries from microfilm I had a feeling there would be some errors with WAFL and SANFL player names that weren't crystal clear on the microfilm.

As a Victorian I grew up watching the VFL and could name just about every player from the '80s onwards in my sleep.

I followed the WAFL and SANFL from afar via State of Origin matches, and articles in Inside Football, so the big names I knew - the others... not so much.
