We saw some very good games of footy last weekend, despite my mob being on the losing end. There is now a 2 game gap between 4th and 5th-7th, so those in the lower half of the ladder will need to make a stand this round.

Swans v Tigers

The GF replay, in front of the home crowd, doesn't get much bigger than this for the Swans, who are languishing near the bottom of the table. On the other hand the Tigers won't want to lose ground to the Falcons or let the port teams gain ground on them, but they haven't been in great form the last month.

Swans just haven't been able to get it going so far this season. They have lost a couple by a goal or thereabouts and last week were all over the Sharks, but couldn't get the ball through the big sticks. Hansen and Hunter come back in, with Robinson, whilst Roberts and Williams are rested. Hansen seems to make something happen in Swans forward line and maybe this will help Geappen get back to his goalsneaking best. Guys like Riggio and Robinson need to find some form, as does Hunter, but he hasn't been in the team. Hinkley will help with the run required to beating the Tigers and Hams will play an important role, with Jetta and Jacky on the lively small forwards.

The Tigers, we all know, have an abundance of runners. Blackwell, Brabazon, Foster, Schammer, Browne, Swift, Stevenson, Mitchell, McLernon. They lose Browne and Swift and bring in a guy like Anderson. Wait until you see this guy, super pace, good skills and takes the game on. Of course that's if I'm remembering the correct player. Jones will have a tough time of it all day with Ames, Crawford and Notte should be an interesting duel, as will Miles and Lee. Should be a good match, even though I'm not really looking forward to it. :(
Tigers by a couple of goals.

Demons v Lions

The Demons are another team desperate to get back on the winner's list and they've got to do it against one of their nemesis teams. They did however, beat the lions in the first round, so they can do it and on paper have a strong team. The Lions also need to win to maintain touch with the top 4, so it'll be a battle to the end.

The Dees have fallen back into their old ways of meandering through parts of a season. Citizen Kane is back to stiffen their defense, De Jongh can't get a game so that says something about the depth at Lathlain this year. McDougall was going well in the ruck, Moody was kicking goals, Sibosado was playing good footy earlier in the year but some of the players have definitely dropped off. Maybe the break was at a good time for the team? Pitt, from the Dockers, will be a very big addition to the team, I reckon. Crucify me if you want, but I reckon here's some of the dees problem. The centreline is this: D O'Sullivan J Jacobs J Kayler-Thomson. Throw in Ross Young and you've got too many of the accumulator, not necessarily damaging, types of players. Admittedly I don't know about Jacobs, but look at the other 3. There is no line breaking speedster, this is where Pitt, with his great footskills, becomes very handy. Anyway, I may have drunk too much coffee dees fans.

The Lions are farewelling one of their modern day stars, Chad Cossom, who is retiring after this game. He's been a faithfull and loyal servant and a good footballer to boot. Since the Swans win the Lions haven't been able to put it together and have the acrimony of being the first team to lose to Peel, saving Swans the embarrassment. The team will step up for Cossom and 2 of his old mates re-join him to end his adventure, Forrest and Keevers. Broadhurst remains the lynchpin of this team and really needs others to step up and help.
On paper Perth have the better side, IMO, but Subi will win for Cossom.

Bulldogs v Thunder

I'm guessing before last weekend Bulldogs supporters were quite relaxed about this game, but with Hams and Gaff missing this week, it now looms as a real danger game and the Bulldogs can lose ground on the pack chasing a top 4 berth. Conversely, the Thunder boys should go in with a fair degree of confidence.

The Bulldogs have been a good running side this year and have unearthed some real potential future players. Guys like Palumbo, Guglia continues to improve and Winter. Guglia out will be another significant out, in my book. Murphy to carry the ruck, so I don't know how he goes there, but he's mobile and a good pair of hands. Presumably Mugambwa gives him a chop out. They seem to have gone small in this game with the mosquite fleet being full.

The Thunder may have the advantage in the ruck with P-S and Lycett, both pretty mobile as well. Battye comes in and is an important player. On the trivial, I noticed that between the Thornton's and Beswicks, they're a third of the team, so the understanding should be good. :p I see they've brought another big body in, in Williams. Thinking they can stretch the doggies? There looks plenty of run in the dogs that they will have to deal with though.
I think the Bulldogs should win but I'm starting to think the Thunder might. Maybe my millk was a bit off in the coffee?

Falcons v Sharks

Sunday at 2:15 pm will see the Falcons take on the Sharks at the Arena. The Falcons are flying at 8-0 and the Sharks have been underdogs the past couple of weeks, with big outs, but they have fought on.

The Falcons should be refreshed and ready to take on another top 4 contender. Hutchings has really stiffened their midfield corps, not that they were particularly weak. Strijk has continued in fine form and LeCras has been blistering off half back. Hunt returns to defence, Browne and Fleay give plenty of drive. Tregear seems to have been a very good find and Zanetti up forward has been good. The captain, Salecic and Mellington are named on the interchange, which tells you how good they're going.

The Sharks lose Brennan and Sheppard, but welcome back McNamara and Houlihan. This will provide some more run for them and Hooligan may well get to run with Hutchings. Brennan was outstanding last week and will be a pretty big miss. Two other experienced players they welcome back are Teakle and Dunn. Monteath was very good last week as well and his run, along with the O'Briens', Dalziell, McGough, Stevens, Fasolo and Boyle will be needed to match it with the hot Falcons.
I expect the Falcons to win but this may be closer than anticipated.

Re: WFL Round 11, 2011

Man I'd love to know what has been going on with the Tigers form over the last few weeks.
I have to say I have very little confidence that they'll come away with t win this week.
Have they dropped off that much, or have the other teams picked up the pace a bit? And figurd out a good gameplan to beat them?
Sure hope our coach has a plan B to fall back on but I haven't seen it yet.

Great write up once again Swannies.

Re: WFL Round 11, 2011

Looks like a pretty straightforward round to tip this one, probably see a couple of big upsets now..

Nice work. :D

1 more win to Peel and we're almost at the bottom.

Re: WFL Round 11, 2011

The wafl site had them as winners an hor after the game bt they forgot to add sowfs last quarter score to the final tally. Bush League web management right there

Well at least they are being consistent.
They are showing East Freo as having 3 goals at the end of the 1st qtr , half time , 3rd qtr & full time.
When in fact we beat the falcons, thus preventing them winning 9 in a row for the first time , by 14 points....& at arena joondalup.

That indeed, is a phenomenal win, with many outs. Reading the Perth Now article someone posted on the Eagles board, it's the third time the Sharks, or Old Easts, as they were, have stopped the Falcons / Cardinals from racking up 9 straight. The other 2 being late 1800's and early 1900's, so over a 100 years ago.

Footytips.com.au still has the official result as that scoreline and has awarded a point for it too.
