Well, we have another interesting set of fixtures this week with 1 playing 2, so they will open up a 1 game gap on the others, while EF and Swans get another chance to put a game between WP, or catch 1 more up. All traditional Satruday games again.

Tigers v Sharks - this could be a very interesting match, with the Tigers and Sharks both showing improved form over the past few games. Tigers will retain their AFL players and Sharks probably won't regain any in the second week of the AFL split round. Think the U18 players might be released for this round as well, as their next fixture is 27th June, so Sharks may regain some there. Sibosado gets another chance to impress at the League level, looking a very likely mover from the previos game I saw. B Jones, Wilkes, Thomson form quite a solid back line with prolific ball winners in Blackwell, Jackson, Crabb and Jarvis, alongside McGinnity, Rudeforth, Stevenson the Tigers have a potent enough midfield. Then C Jones and Richardson up forward with Sibosado and they look like a team that should be sitting higher than the bottom of the table. The Sharks will rely on their run like against Souths and presumably Peel. Houlihan has been in a rare vein of form, Dalby knocks up getting the ball, Hardingham is the leading FB in the comp, IMO, McCarrey, well he's just a handful at this level. Throw in Fasolo (x2), possibly Lucas, Sheppard, as well as Green, Basile, Dunn - regaining top touch, Bongiascia, Leslie, Davidson and Hall and this should be one cracking match. Don't know why, but Tigers?

Royals v Peel - coming off a few disappointing matches Micale will be trying to fire up the Royals, Peel will be trying to gain that game back from EF and remain a game or so out of the 4. Royals will have the service of McKinley, to help Noakes up forward again, but will seek a better output from him. The Royals running brigade isn't too bad, with Cowell, Humm, Byrne, Travers, Wulff, Hancock, Eastwell and Clarke. Peels runners aren't too bad either with Rosa, Schofield, Bloxsidge, Ware, Morabito?, Arrowsmith. Defenses for both are solid and forward lines OK, with Peels marginally stronger. Expect the Royals to come out fired up but Peel to overcome them.

Swans v Perth - can the Swans put the Demons season to an end? Cannot afford to lose this one but then the Demons will want to continue an upward form trend. Real danger game for Swans and because of the earlier loss this one makes me nervous. Swans won't have Naita, so Spaanders is back to going it alone, with relief from Notte it seems. Hansen will be up forward, but will need crumbers at his feet because once it hits the deck it's like he's on stilts. Jetta, Wolfenden, Robinson, Twomey, Roberts and Lange will have to work their backsides off against K-T, Moody, Butler, Ruffles, Sullivan, Jones, Cook and Ferguson up forward should be a real challenge for Ames. Hopefully Swans can get their vaunted running game going for more than a quarter this week and jsut pip the demons at the post.

MOTR - Souths v Subi - last time on a Friday night at Leederville it was Subi's biggest loss in years, can the same happen again? Souths should have Murphy and Wilson, on his last couple of games form, should be far too good for Parker (how he got a sate guernsey has me stumped). Rumble still goes OK, so these 2 will need to stretch the defense. Throw the Wiz in and I think we've got a stretched defense. Stack had the best game I've ever seen him play last week, can he back it up and take the Wiz out? In the middle Rix gets thrown straight into the mix and was servicable. Randall made a huge difference in the middle last week, whilst Read was unusually outside. Cockie goes hard, Hildebrandt and Webb need to be accountable (don't do a Swans and let them roam at their whim), the Hams brothers are just the 2 for the job. Maplestone had his best game of the year last week, so Wilson may go to him if Bairstow remains forward. Graham has been one of the better ruckmen in the league and should be ably supported by Adams, Siegert, McGrath, Dell-Olio and Phillips. Leaning towards the doggies in this one.

Have a super footy weekend, let the kids smell the sweat and Lanolin at a real footy match and hope everyone enjoys. :thumbsu:

Great write up.

Firstly, Siegert wont be playing league, perhaps not ever again. He was dropped for the Swans game and told he would be playing reserves. The morning of the match he said he was sick and didnt play.

The following week he pulled out with an alleged injury.

Perhaps the biggest most pathetic dummy spit seen down at Souths for some time. Doubt he'll get another gig for the next month unless he gets over his ego and performs for the ressies.

Dell'olio has been playing ressies for the past two weeks, hasnt really set the world on fire and with a dominant forward line from last week, doubt here is a spot for him.

Nice work Swannie.

Cant see West Perth losing this weekend.

Ha Ha, nice work, thanks. Just like Swans can't lose next weekend. :thumbsu:

Nicely done Swannies, Think the Doggies will get up in your MOR

Disappointing to say the least samsenee, and thanks. Was hoping not to see Subi on top of the ladder.:p

Seeing as I'm on a high, second on ladder and bye next weekend thought I might give a write up on the game today.

Beautiful weather for footy for the first three quarters, excluding the gale blowing towards the Guildford end, although it did show off the nice new windsock rather well. :D Haven't seen a windsock at Basso for years until this year and we might as well have toed it down, like Sheeds, for all the notice Perth took of it in the second quarter.

First quarter gets underway with Swans kicking with the breeze and making good use of it to get to a 6 goals to 2 lead. Both teams start reasonably well, hitting targets and being good with their ball use. Butler must have had the pox, because no one wanted to go near him for the first quarter. Swans ended up making the best use of the breeze, with long kicks to the goal square finding the Demons out on a few occasions. Robinson got the first 2 (K-T's opponent), Notte kicked a nice goal from the pocket, Spaanders chimed in with a monster from 60 and Carr got lucky with a torpedo with the outside of the boot. Brennan kicked Perth's 2 goals (I think).

2nd quarter is where it all unravelled for the dees. Started playing the short game with the breeze and their skills started to really dissipate, like a candle in the wind. :D Whether this was Jarman's inexperience at Basso or some strange game plan , who knows? Swans played exceptional into the wind footy and ran and carried the ball well and ended up extending the lead at the half time break. Something not many people may know is that the poor little league kids had to have shackles placed around their ankles at half time today, to prevent them being blown away in the gale.

The third quarter, or the first half of it, produced a form reversal where Swans forgot how to play with the category 3 cyclone and Perth started running it into the wind a lot better. Ruffles sparked up, Ferguson went forward (which caused problems at the defensive end, but hey....), Brennan kept providing an option, as did Moody. The dees closed to within 5 goals and I thought, hello, we have a game on our hands here, but this is where Ferguson going forward caused a problem. Drum was put on to Hansen and, well frankly, that didn't end well. 3 goals for the quarter for the big ginger and suddenly the lead was back out to 9 goals. And then there was Jetta's absolutely spectacular gather on the run from 50 and goal. Hinkley had handballed the ball behind Jetta and he just reached back, flipped the ball forward so he could catch and run in the one motion, beautiful!

Some consolation for the dees is that they won the last quarter, kicking with the now downgraded cat 2 cyclone which had become a rain bearing front. The only 2 idiots (apart from the players), left out in the rain were my son and his mate. I've had to hide his wet clothes at the bottom of the backpack so his mother doesn't realise I let him get wet. :D Anyway, all spectators headed for cover and the game turned into a rugby match, which suited Swans just fine. Perth kept trying and within the first 30 seconds they had a flying shot from 60, something they hadn't done in the second.

Young and K-T racked up the possession, but after watching K-T relatively closely a few times this year, if you were Perth you would really have to ask their true value. Neither had much impact and when I spotted players 40m out, with the breeze, handballing to K-T on the run, 2 words sprang to mind, cheap possies. Sorry dees fans, but it's looked that way this year. Butler had a pretty good game, as did Ruffles, Krueger and Thornton were pretty good, in patches, Sullivan kept having a go and Armstrong just keeps going hard but had too little support. Brennan was good, as was Ferguson. Time to bring through the Powers, Peedles etc, IMHO.

For Swans, it really was a true team effort and no one really stood out to me, except Spaanders, who would've been in with a shot at the Sandover if he didn't have that brain snap that rubbed him out. :thumbsu::thumbsu:
