Brownlow Medallist
With the two port clubs losing, maybe the race for the top 4 is not as cut and dried as it appeared, with Subi now a game behind 4th spot. 3 teams again have the bye, with Claremont playing in the Foxtel Cup semis.
Swans v Thunder
The thunder gave Swans a scare last time at Rushton and have just beaten the Sharks, so come into the game in reasonable form. Swans won't be able to take them lightly if they want to close the gap on the 4th placed Sharks.
Swans have had 2 byes in the past 3 weeks, so should be fresh. They've bought in a number of young players for this game, with Newman and Garlett coming up from the colts. Rintoul stays in the side and Hansen is back, who'll be the biggest match up problem for the Thunder. Geappen continues his rich vein of form, although he still won't chase
and he seems to revel in Hansen's absence. Potente was great his first league game back and Robinson had his best game for the year, both stats wise and impact wise last game. Can the Swans maintain that solid form, which has been their problem all year, consistency.
Peel, on the other hand, have been very consistent, although they're still on the bottom but they are a chance to not finish there and they have only been really blown away in 1 game, that I can recall, and that was only the last half. Herring and Lycett have given them good targets up forward and it will be interesting seeing Faulks play, which I presumed he'd be FB but that doesn't look the case. Jones x 2, Thornton x 3, Eddy, Crichton give them some good run through the middle. P-S should be a good tussle with Lammie in the ruck, with Lycett probably giving a slight edge to the Thunder.
Very undecided about this game, Peel can win but go for the home side, just.

Royals v Demons
This shapes as a real grudge match, with the Dees still a shot at the 4, where a loss will end any hope and if the Royals can mount a late season run, like last year, they're still an outside shot.
The Royals just haven't been able to get their season of the ground and for the most part have appeared flat. 3 important ins are Wulff, Swan and Travers. Macaulay usually comes in and provides a bit of run. Sweet and Lee should be a decent centre pairing, I think, with JON running off half back and Wulff and Clutterbuck on the wings, it looks reasonably strong. Smith, of the Josh variety, has been a shining beacon for the Royals and maybe Shepheard can give him some support.
The Dees, I've said all year, have a strong team on paper, sometimes they show it, sometimes they don't. Their midfield run is their strength with Young, K-T, Armstrong leading the way in being able to get mountains of posession. Hodge, Elari, O'Sullivan, Jacobs, Rodger, Fiegert provide good rotations. Moody has been fantastic forward and Busher has been somewhat of a revelation, tough and hard at the contest. De Jongh, an East Perth junior product before going to SA, gets an extended run in the main followers role, and with Kane also against his old club, could provide some extra spice.
Earlier I was leaning towards the Royals, now the Dees, who to pick? Should be a close one.

Bulldogs v Falcons
This shapes as a critically important match, for the Bulldogs. If the Falcons continue on their merry way, it opens up 3rd spot for a challenge, if the Doggies win they are assured a spot in the finals and may even challenge for second. The Falcons, well, they have hardly put a foot wrong all season, although Freo oval is not a happy hunting ground for them.
The Bulldogs have also been inconsistent this year, although not as much as the other sides. They've put a fairly experienced side on the park for this one, but Phillips out, with Gaff, could be a big blow. Looking forward to Hayward playing in the ruck, he probably has a bit I just haven't seen him but there are big wraps on the kid. The runners, Bairstow, McGrath, White, Hams, Hasleby, Cook, Collica, Adams are going to have to be at their best to challenge the Falcons. I notice the bench is mainly runners, so the brains trust see it the same way. Wilson's job should be to make LeCras accountable, not let him rack up the 30 possies on the way out of the back half.
The Falcons, well, what can you say about them? They've been fantastic all year, Billy has them playing Premiership winning football and largely with the same team as last year, which disappointed so many Falcons fans. So what has been behind the turnaround? It seems a form thing. Billy threw LeCras back (it's the done thing these days) and he's been in irresistible form, gathering big numbers at CHB. Gobbels has been in superb form and Tregear has been a real find. Browne coming back to the club was a nice bonus and then the captain, Salecic, just keeps running and getting the footy. They're playing a great running style of football, exciting to watch, except when you're team's getting done by them
and they are an even team.
Even at Freo I can't go past the Falcons, but they'll get a fight from the doggies.
Should be a cracking match this one.
