Well, on a weekend where there are only 2 AFL games I'm a bit staggered there are only 2 WAFL games on. The Friday night is an excellent idea though, and I will be going to that one, although not sure who I'm cheering for? :p

Fri night, Lions v Falcons, Leederville

A rivalry that has intensified in the last few years, this should be an entertaining game. I didn't give WP enough credit at the start of the season and thought they looked an average side, but to play the way they did in the second half last week, wow. Subi have had a slow build up to the season and having not played for a couple of weeks may hinder their start.

The Falcons can't expect the same output from last week's debutant, Johnson, but Salecic had a quiet first half, which doesn't happen too often. The Falcons looks to have a fair bit of run in their side and Pettigrew back in defence is a big boon for them. If Sinclair plays, and it's a fine night, that will make the Falcons defence work hard. Kayler-Thomson makes his debut for Subi, as does Herring.

Looking forward to seeing what Schofield has in store for us with Subi this year.

Royals v Thunder, Leederville, Sat 2:10 pm

Well, the aligned teams on derby weekend, interesting.... Not that it's a fully fledged derby yet. Both coming off losses last week and East Perf on the bottom after 1 round.

The Royals side has experience but doesn't look menacing to me. They will rely heavily on whether Johnson (Paul) can back up his season last year and remain at that level. Josh Smith should be a handful up forward, Cadwallader had a good return, Wilson is a good asset down back with Chartres, Morton will want to show a bit more. Wulff always sets the bar for attacking the contest and putting your body on the line.

Peel are an interesting proposition this year. They have a few Dockers players this week, Sheridan, Michie, Cerozier, Pitt, Faulks. Michie has been plagued by injury, but I'm keen to see how he goes because he came down to a training session for my junior side last year and was a thinking footballer and a nice guy. Jacky and Motlop are handy acquisitions and I'd like to see Cam Shepherd do alright.

This should be a reasonably close contest on paper, but I think the Royals will get over the line.

Have an enjoyable WAFL weekend. :thumbsu:
