------------------------------------------------------

9 Peel Thunder 17 1 16 0 2 0 1042 1904 54.73 4

Current top 4 will be the top 4 at the end of the qualifying rounds. Only problem is where they will finish. Subi And Swans have a game up their sleeve so they should get positions 1 and 3.

Reserves Ladder after Round 19
1 Claremont 17 13 4 0 2 0 1435 946 151.69 52
2 Subiaco 16 12 4 0 3 0 1432 1047 136.77 48

9 East Perth 16 2 14 0 3 0 726 1524 47.64 8

Peel are in danger of slipping to 4th with their poor percentage, Swans could still make it, but would be a huge ask.

Colts Ladder after Round 19

1 Claremont 17 13 4 0 2 0 1427 1007 141.71 52
2 Peel Thunder 17 12 5 0 2 0 1370 844 162.32 48

4 East Fremantle 17 11 6 0 2 0 1377 1037 132.79 44
----------------------------------------------------
5 Perth 16 10 6 0 3 0 1124 1008 111.51 40
6 South Fremantle 17 6 11 0 2 0 1174 1322 88.80 24

8 West Perth 16 3 13 0 3 0 659 1369 48.14 12
9 Subiaco 16 2 14 0 3 0 817 1455 56.15 8

Be interesting to see if Perth can make the 4, haven't had much joy in the other grades so they could sink all their time into seeing their team makles the top 4. Peel's percentage got a massive boost as they thrashed South on the weekend by 111 points.

BYE Peel Thunder

Note all these matches are for the League games.

Not really sure why they are so bad, they just are. Its like asking why is Bentleigh (Richmond board troll) such a knob jockey. I dunno why, he just is.

The only reason which could be attributed to their success is their location. Their players come from different areas and the travel is an issue when attracting players to the club.

To answer your question, no. They will struggle for many years to come.

Got a few queries about a few players who used to play GV and are now playing WAFL; Ben Anderson, Daniel Maher, Andrew Mills. How are they going , where are they playing? Anyone know??

I'd like to know why Peel Thunder appear to have strong reserves and Colts, but are so badly performed ar league level. Is there much hope of them making the finals in the next few years?

Peel seem to have some talent down there. Most will play colts and they will continue to be a reasonable side. Location is a major problem. The isolation of the club compared to the others is quite big and many players feel compelled to move to amatuer or even other WAFL clubs to further their careers and also AFL clubs taking their players (Farren Ray and Daniel Wells) This leaves gaps in Peel's development as a club. The reserves is a different story. For years, Peel's reserves have been very uncompetitive, mainly because of their players moving away. But because Peel won the colts premiership last year, those players stayed with the club and have made the reserves side quite good.

I don't see much of a change for Peel in the near future, they might improve slightly with the influx of younger players.

Maher's been playing for Perth all year
Mills is at East Perth, in and out in League side.
Houghton played League early in the season but is now playing 2's
Get back to you on Anderson.

Whats the deal with calling it the league side? Surely its state League at best. I think they are off in their own little world over there, rating heavily.

Ljp86 more details on Mills please.

Surely he is not playing 2s, very handy and creative footballer.

Do you play in the the WAFL or just a speactator

I heard Maher had an awesome year last year and is going pretty well this year but not as good as last year. I'm pretty sure Benalla are missing him back home.

It's just what we call it. The highest grade is known as Leaugue, next best is Reserves and then there is the Colts comp.

Mills played one match in the reserves side and then spent the bulk of the first half of the season in the League side. He then got an injury and was just recalled to the top side a couple of weeks ago. Mills hasn't been setting the world on fire. He has only been in the best 6 once and has 6 goals in the league team and one in the reserves team.

They certainly do things differently. Id say the reason is so that all those battlers can feel good about themselves by saying "I played League".

Anyway Ljp86, what team do you follow in the WAFL?

It's just how we refer to the top grade.

Subiaco

What is the confusion?

Like the SANFL and the VFL, The WAFL has the league/seniors, reserves/seconds and colts/thirds.

It couldn't possibly be anymore self explanitory.

The biggest game of the year is coming up. East Freo versus South Freo, should be a cracker. The bulldogs want to win this to keep their reputation up and the sharks want to win to prove there a force again. I think South by 20 points but come on sharks.

To correct you :

VFL-Seniors
VFL-Reserves
TAC Cup- U/18

'League footy' for many years has referred to the highest grade of football available.

Surely the WAFL is far from the highest grade available. Isnt it?

I think Ben ANderson is playing for Perth. Could be wrong. Plays CHF.

It's a remnant of when there was no AFL - only VFL (now AFL), SANFL & WAFL.

SANFL & WAFL used to and still do call their football "league football".

To everyone else only the VFL (not the revamped VFA) and now AFL are "league football".

Thankyou TuskenRaider, you have clearly proved my point.

The AFL used to be the VFL which is the highest grade available, so the AFL is League footy and the VFL was Leaugue footy. So the SANFL and WAFL is just Senior footy, not leaugue footy.

The WAFL has had three grades for the last 25 years at least. League , Reserves, Colts (formerly thirds). Before that there was also a Fourths division.

That is the way it is and always will be. League just says what grade in that competion you play.

Read the history books, it is referred to as league footy in the VFL, SAFL and WAFL.
