Brownlow Medallist
We've come to the penultimate round and we could have a very interesting race to the finals by tomorrow night.
Let me digress for a minute, but if you thought the League finals race was close, has anyone looked at the colts? There are 6 teams still able to make the top 4, spread from 44 to 52 points. So the colts clashes over the next 2 weeks are vital and there looks to be a crucial one in the final round, Swans v Souths. Keep up the good work there boys!
OK, to the league this week. The 2 most crucial clashes are Claremont v Falcons and East Perth v Lions.
Claremont v Falcons - on the face of it, we would expect the Falcons to canter away with this game. However, the Tigers have been a tough side for the Falcons to beat at Claremont Oval over the past decade. WP have a pretty good forward set up with LeCras, Campbell, Darling, Tsalikis and Longmuir. Throw in Seaby up there in stints and you can see the Tiges should be stretched. The Tigers have Richardson, C Jones and Staples. Midfield is where this match should be won. Ruck, Crabb, Orzel, McGinnity?, Blackwell, Jackson, Stevenson v Seaby, Keunen, Salecic, Guadagnin, Rice, Harvey, Bewick it looks a pretty good match. Falcons should win though.
Royals v Lions - talk about a team coming home with a full head of steam and probably casuing a little consternation for those teams already in the 4, well the Royals are it. They must beat Subi to have a chance of playing in the finals, assuming WP beat Claremont of course. Looks like Fletcher travels with the Eagles, so that helps the Royals. Clarke, Noakes, Wulff, Hancock, Duncan, Hutchings, Stratton, Oliver, Travers, Merrington looks a pretty good side opposed to Rix, Hildebrandt, Broadhurst, Hyphen, Stenglein, Maplestone, Chick, Stack, Rumble. TBH, Subi are starting to look a bit thin with the outs of Read, Cockie and Fletch, especially through the mid. That is why I'm tipping the Royals.
Sharks v Swans - Thanks Woosh, I'll remember
. With Spangher and Staker out one would suspect the Swans job to win will be made a little easier. Although the bonus of the day will be watching Lucas, Sheppard and Swallow oh, and some guy called Jetta. Swans should win comfortably but it all depends on which attitude we bring to the game. Notte at FF again excites me, 5 goals last week, hopefully 10 this week, although it will be a big effort on the form FB of the comp in Hardingham. After suffering high blood pressure from last weeks game I need to take a new "meh" attitude towards the remaining games.
Perth v Peel - there's only pride on the line in this one and Peel haven't really shown much in the second half of the season. Hopefully youngsters like Aaron Black, Luff, Busher etc get a chance to shine at league level, before they are whisked off to all corners of the country. Perth put in an enormously improved effort to the previous week but which Perth will come out this week? Sullivan played a superb match, along with Young, Armstrong and a couple of young kids I didn't recognise. Peel seemed to be served well by Arrowsmith and Schofield of the Eagles last week and they will be keen to maintain form coming to the contracts end of the season. Robins, Bloxsidge, Rosa, Ware and Haines will be required to play good games to get Peel over the line at Lathlain.
Well, good luck to all and hope everyone enjoys their weekend of footy, with a breeak from the rain in order, I hope.
