Crucial game for all 3 sides against Claremont this week. We must rebound and i am more then confident we can. The colts have a tough task against a strong Claremont colts side the league on the other hand should be able to cope with the side Claremont puts out no matter what. We have the players it is just a matter of performing on the day and after last week i hope the players come out committed for the cause and lets chalk up the first win of the season at Leederville on MONDAY!

Probably a few changes to the side that lost to SF with an injury to Glancy but im not sure if they go for the experience of Andrew Mills/Paul Symmons or someone else. Must admit the reserves didnt really have a standout player last week so im sure they will go for a tried and tested selection.

Hey Wellsy is there anything we should know about Butcher donw at the bay this year, first impressions says he will be in our top 5 or so players this year, what was he like at East Perth did you guys rate him??

Hell bloody yeah! He was always in our best players. Disappointing to have lost him but he is a great player. Doesnt get in and under but when he has the footy has good skills by foot. Has a really good leap and took the best mark here a couple of seasons ago when he literally got to the height of the point post... better then that Sampi bloke! If your ruckman can get it to him from the centre bounce he can burst through the pack and is usually accurate from 50. Pretty deadly with his kicks, play him on the wing/centre or on a forward flank but you got to give him room to run and move.

Just watch out for his temper, which at times can let him down but he has matured and you will probably see that very rarely these days.

LBJ23, i think Jeff Smith was also at Glenelg this year if so hows he going as i would of liked him coming back to EP but i guess the almighty dollar was too good to refuse.

Unfortunately it is often the clubs themselves, or should I say coaches of the clubs, that have a large say in scheduling.

There are clubs that do not want to play on Sundays or public holidays.

I've thought for some years now that coaches both at AFL and state league level are having too much influence on the game and in some cases are grinding the sport into the ground.

They introduced flooding, removed the high mark to a degree, removed the torpedo, removed the snap for goal from the boundary-top of the square nowdays and introduced the expendable run with player.

There is a massacre at Eftel Oval (Lathlain)! Perth midway through the 3rd are 2.3 and Subiaco are 21.10! Perth didnt kick their first goal till the 3rd term!

Perth 0.2|0.2|2.3
Subiaco 3.5|13.7|21.10

Still in the 3rd

East Freo 30
Swans 51

12 minutes into the 3rd

The mighty Lions won by a whopping 160pts at lathlain (EFtel Oval), while there was a nailbiter at East Fremantle, with the Sharks getting within 7pts of Swans in the last quater, but eventual losers by 14pts.

We are just about ready for a start in the Peel V South Fremantle game.

I hope Peel win.

Just got back from the Subi v Perth game.

I can't tell if Subi are just damn amazing, if Perth are just plain aweful or if it is both. Whatever it is, it was a whitewash, massacre, whatever you want to call it. What is interesting is it was slippery! I'd shudder to think what the score might have been if it was dry, IMO it would only have helped Subi.

Onya Lions! Back to Back (hopefully:))

Easter Saturday Final Score:

East Fremantle 10.7.67
Swan Districts 11.15.81

Swans side of things:

Swans little man, Shane Beros amazed 41 possessions for the match.
Chris Maguire kept goalless by Damien Gaspar after kicking seven goals last week.
Craig Callaghan went off injured looks like a hamstring injury.
Garth Taylor reported for charging.

Perth 0.2|0.2|2.3
Subiaco 3.5|13.7|21.10

Looks like all the $$$ from changing thier name to Home Demons has helped!!

South Fremantle beat Peel by 68 points to continue their good start to the season.

SF 19.9.123
Peel 8.7.55

How did Nicoski go?

Watched the East Freo v Swans game, Kasey Green had 31 disposals and 8 marks. Mitchell Clark showed glimpses as to why he is considered one of the top prospects at this years draft.

The game certainly showed that the WAFL is definitely a second class competition with signs of it deteriorating further. It has become a graveyard for ex-AFL players and older players who are able to beat the younger kids because of their more mature bodies.

The East Freo v Swans game also showed how poor the Fremantle second string players such as Dunn, Stribling and Peake really are.

I dont agree that the standard of the WAFL is falling, in fact I think it has risen significantly since 2000/2001 pretty much in line with the increase in attendances since that time.

However, I do agree that most clubs are playing too many ex-AFL or interstate recruits simply because they have had the gym time and can excert a physical presence.

Hopefully more former colts players make their debut this season.

I wouldn't like to see the natural players drop out of the game but there is certainly a danger that this situation could arise quite often.

I just don't understand how a team at WAFL level in this day and age could kick only 3 goals 4 behinds and lose by 160 points!

Neither can I....but hey, being a Subi supporter I'm certainly not complaining :D

I don't think attendances are rising because of improved standards at all. I think it is due more to people being interested in football at a grass roots level where the whole family can enjoy a day at the footy. Where parents can take there kids to a game and not be worried about losing them amongst the masses. Where you can afford to take the whole family whilst enjoying a picnic type atmosphere.

AFL footy is getting to the point where you can no longer buy a membership to see your team play, where the only time players are approachable are on club official days, and where kids can no longer have a kick on the oval at half time or go out and listen to the coaches address. AFL football is becoming a sport you only see on the TV.

Yep some good points streaker.

And there is a little bit more promotion taking place in the last couple of years.

I thought the standard of play was pretty poor between 1997-2000 but I've been quite impressed in the last 2 seasons.

I suppose a lot depends on which teams you see more of.

that is a flipping massacre!!! OUCH!!! at least it wasnt peel on the end of it this time.

Good game taking place at Leederville today by the sounds of the ABC commentary.

At Half time Claremont 6.5 (41) lead East Perth 4.6 (30).

Yeah. Of course I'm listening to it. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Claremont sprinting away in the last quarter despite East Perth kicking the last 2 goals.

Claremont 13.11 are leading East Perth 6.11.

Yup. A lot of people seemed to think East Perth would lift this year and Claremont would slide. Seems they may be wrong. :D
