Brownlow Medallist
After a thrilling year we're down to the same 4 teams as last year, which some may say is ho-hum, but I think the season was a lot closer than that. Souths look the team to beat, although I am quietly confident that with our "ins" the Swans will be able to take it up to all comers.
First Semi Final - Swans v Falcons. It's the end of the road for one of these teams in wet conditions on Saturday. Swans welcome back Naitanui, Pearce and Walters, possibly Davis, from the AFL. Plus a couple of Pratt, Spencer, Robinson would be very nice. West Perth obviously played with a lot of spirit last week and expect more of the same this week. The past couple of years there has only been a few goals difference between them and both have been up and down coming into the last month of the season.
WP have a very good forward set up with LeCras, Longmuir, Tsalikis, Campbell and Seaby, when rested down there. This will be a tough test for Ames, Pratt, McKinlay or Spencer and Casserley. Seaby has been in red hot form for the last half of the season and of course we all know what Naita is capable of, so the midfield match should be pivotal. Salecic, Guadagnin, Bewicks, vanBerlo, Burns, Chambers, Rice against Roberts, Lange, Wolfenden, Jetta, Fleming (I hope not!), Carr (same as previous), Embley (please), Colreavy and Potente, with hopefully Davis thrown through there.
Forward, if Hansen comes up, with Hunter, Notte, Geappen, looks a potent forward line that should stretch the likes of Keunen, Hunt, Rice.
Should be a cracker, but the Swans, just!!
Second Semi Final, Sowfs v Subi. It's unusual, but good
, for an end of season raid on the cup not to have Subi as the fancied ones. Fletcher back this week will help, plus Broughton will go a long way to balancing the ledger.
Souths forwards were once potent, and they were last week against some fairly insipid opposition, but with Murphy and possibly Farmer out, not so. Souths rely on their mids to kick a heap of goals, along with their running defenders, and they do the job for them. Last week Seigull kicked 4, off half back/midfield. Wilson will be a hand full for either Parker or Rumble. Randall has been playing good football and will take one of the smaller forwards, Farmer/Phillips/Dell'olio, Stack will probably take the other. Broughton will take the most dangerous.
The midfield, with Graham v Rix, will be pivotal again. Hams x 2, Adams x 2, Withers, Miller, Bell?, Gilmore, Head will be a good match for Keevers, Cossom, Webb, Stenglein, Fletcher, Hildebrandt.
Subi's forwards can be on or off, this year, with Maplestone, Smith, Hyphen all performing well at various times. Broadhurst is a consistent, hard worker and Hunt may go to him. Bossong probably takes Smith.
Should be another cracker, although Sowfs start warm favourites, but I say beware of the Lions.
Hope everyone stays dry, warm and more importantly, healthy and enjoys their footy this weekend.
