Walker and Ackland have shoulder surgery

Bumma. O well, i guess better to happen now than a week before round 1.

As useless as Ackland was last year, he's a big lug who we'd want up our sleeve.
Aisake, Hampson and Kruezer, as talented as they are, are just babies.

It's crucial now that Cloke has a strong pre-season to lead the ruck contingent through the early rounds, otherwise we could see Setanta spending time there again when we'd prefer him down back.

I would like to know which shoulder he injured and if it's a recent injury.

He didn't have a problem bowling the other day. ;)

2 undersized rucks with shoulder issues, and 3 promising babys. i hope we can hold our own in the ruck this year.....luckily we have a few extra quality onballers, which might nullify (somewhat) our ruck deficiency

How good does it feel to say that! Been a while!

I guess many of us have been suspecting that Walker would be having surgery on his shoulder for some time now -and were REALLY hoping to be proven wrong!

Let's hope it doesn't interrupt his pre-season too much as from all reports he was really tearing it up and setting himself for a big season! :thumbsu:

Agree that if he plays we are not tanking, and also agree that I would prefer that he didn't play, and that if he requires surgery then he do it now.

If he goes in for surgery in October and it delays his pre-season I will be writing to the club.

I will be VERY pissed off though if he has surgery the week after the season ends.
VERY PISSED OFF!

Bear it may not be October or the week after the season ends, but I think you should still be VERY pissed off and you should definitely be writing to the club!

No big loss, Ackland is a hack of the highest order, and Walker is average at best, cannot kick or handball to save his life, sure he has pace, but what good is pace when he hasn't got any skill when disposing of the ball

Not happy Jan.

FFS who is running the show down there?

The only thing I can think of is it must be a recent aggravation, but really, this should have been scoped in October. Why **** around.

Wait can someone clarify these posts are saying different things...
So Walker's definitely had the surgery but which part is true about the recovery - the bowling pic or the 'late start' bit?

That's a little over the top, even for you DC. Sure, his kicking when under pressure falls away, however, when he has some time, he more often that not delivers the ball preetty well.

Perhaps you should send your CV to the club BB. :thumbsu:

I for one think sending Walker off now for surgery is a good idea.

I have a bad shoulder myself and if I was a professional sportsmen I'd need it reconstructed so I kinda know what Walker is dealing with.

He will have the surgery and after the surgery he'll be recommended to take it easy for a week or two, perfectly coinciding with the 2 week break of which after that he'll be able to start physio.

The beauty is that his pre-season has not been disrupted and he's already built up a fitness base and bulked his body up a bit already. So although when he's in physio he may not be able to do much ball work he'll be able to maintain cardio fitness by running, cycling and even swimming when the shoulder permits. And also doing lower body workouts as well (squats, lunges etc).

When he's ready to go, you'd expect the club and Walker with his keen attitude to then ramp up his skills work again to catch up with the main group.

Had the shoulder surgery at the end of the year after playing with the dodgy shoulder for the last month and a bit. Its the right shoulder and it was operated on the other day, the nuffy did it surfing. Will only take a month before full contact work I'd imagine.

oddly enough you could use that assessment of your namesake without too much editing.
get ball. run head down, flat out. look up & see corner flag. hammer it vaguely goalward. repeat.
