With Terry Wallace perhaps having the choice of Adelaide and Richmond, What are some of advantages we might hold over Adelaide - against a major disadvantage - in some of the areas that the coach would take into account when selecting his preferred side???
Resources - Advantage Adelaide
Its hard to believe that our financial plight wont limit us in some way in the future when it comes to ability to pay full salary cap. This is the major point over any of the following as its the reason he left the Bulldogs. Wanting a couple of players in his last year that he felt were critical to the club and being told the by Smorgon that thier funds meant they couldn't get them seemed the final straw for Terry.
This was reported in the HS.
Salary-cap payments will be cut from 100 per cent to 97 per cent next season. And Miller has said the club wouldn't be in the market for a highly paid coach.
While Miller and Casey have been at pains to say they won't be running an undermanned operation, there are mixed messages here that would cause concerns for any prospective coach.
And money isn't the only cause for confusion. What of Miller's role? Is he, as Casey has said many times, the man who is responsible for evaluating the list? Or will the coach, as Miller has said, be the judge of which players stay and which ones go?
Some prospective applicants have indicated it is all as clear as mud. One said: "Before you go in there, there's a few things that need to be cleared up. You need to ask them how deep are the cuts and then you need to ask yourself: could you work under that regime?"
Another said: "Does it mean you have to go with one assistant coach less, or no rookies, or are you are restricted in going after uncontracted players?
Adelaide have no problems in that area.
Coaching Immortality - Advantage Richmond
Whilst a premiership is what Wallace needs to give him the coaching status of Sheedy and Pagan, the coach who can get Richmond to an era of finals football, even if we fell short of the cup given where we are now, would get Hafey like status. At Adelaide, they have won premierships not too long ago and therefore nothing less than that would satisfy them or set him apart.
Tough reliable midfielder - Advantage Richmond
Mark Riccutio is in the twilight of his career even though playing good football whereas ours - Mark Coughlan - is in the beginning of his.
End of season Support for previous coach - Advantage Richmond
Neil Craig might still be have his name chanted as he walks off Football Park at the end of the Crows' last game like Roos was. Unlikely to happen to Frawley unless crys of 'FREE' are mistaken for crys of 'FRAWLEY'
Affect on Family - Tie
Wallace looks like a pretty family conscious bloke and we would not have done ourselves any favours with some of the reactions after the Adelaide game. Then again Adelaide get pretty feral over there in regards to the way they speak of the coach when he is not performing.
History - Advantage Richmond
Wallace got along very well with Nathan Brown and must have some interest in being there for the remainder of his career given that he is one the leagues more exciting players who Wallace help jolt into action. Wallace played for Richmond for a year in 1987 but it didnt end to well and he has spoken of the bulldogs as really being a breath of fresh air. Not sure the full story of what happened between him and Richmond. No one at the club back then still there.
Uprooting to go to another state - None either way
Seemed prepared to do that in order to go to Sydney
Resources - Advantage Adelaide
