The king is to undergo surgery for epilepsy today. The surgery involves removing part of his brain. :eek I still have memories of his magic in State of Origin and International matches. Here's hoping for the best Wally.:thumbsu:

RUGBY league legend Wally Lewis is recovering after a three-and-a-half hour operation to control his epilepsy.

Speaking after the operation – which was performed at Melbourne's Austin Hospital this afternoon – neurosurgeon Gavin Fabinyi said he was confident it was a success.

"I'm pleased to say Wally is looking good, he has come out of the operation and is still a bit sleepy," Professor Fabinyi said.

"The operation has gone well."

Lewis will spend the next five days recovering in The Austin and then another five days in Melbourne before returning home.

It could be up to 12 months before doctors know if the operation has been a complete success.

Lewis, 47, has spent eight days at the hospital wired to monitors and having seizures induced to see whether the last-resort surgery was possible and if it would work.

Lewis represented Australia in 33 Test matches, played 31 State of Origin matches for Queensland and was captain of NRL side the Brisbane Broncos in 1988-89.
