UP TO SIX WEEKS!!!!
Warne should be fit for World Cup

MELBOURNE, Dec 16 AAP - Shane Warne should be available for Australia's World Cup cricket campaign after undergoing shoulder surgery today.

Australian team doctor Trefor James said Warne had undergone arthroscopic surgery this morning after he dislocated his bowling shoulder against England last night.

James said Warne would be out of action for up to six weeks, meaning Warne will miss the remaining two Ashes Tests against England and the rest of the triangular one-day cricket series.

But James was hopeful of having Warne back by the start of the World Cup in late February.

'I don't think I could be definite, we are hopeful he will be available and we will just have to wait until we'll be in a better position to see,' he said. James said Warne was likely to make a full recovery despite fears his latest injury might have finished his career.

'We expect him to bowl without any dramas and in the short term, we expect him to be out for four to six weeks,' James said.

James said Warne was in shock and disappointment last night but in good spirits today.

James said Warne faced a low-risk of redislocating his shoulder but he said any risk would be associated with throwing a ball rather than bowling.

James said Warne's previous shoulder surgery had no bearing on his latest injury. He said Warne had a good track record of recovering from injuries and was diligent in his approach to rehabilitation.

Melbourne specialist Greg Hoy performed the surgery, which was exploratory.

YES!

Now Gilly
Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist has been ruled out of the Australian cricket team for Sunday's one-day match against Sri Lanka in Perth.

Gilchrist has tendonitis in his knee, and is also suffering from a groin injury.

"I felt some tightness in my groin while I was batting on Sunday, but was obviously able to carry on batting without a runner and then keep wicket during the England innings," Gilchrist said in a statement on Monday.

"Looking at things from a positive perspective, this break will be an opportunity to rest in the middle of our busy schedule."

Looks like Ryan Campbell will replace Gilly for the Sri Lanka Clash comming up

Ryan Campbell deserves a gig after the other day's effort...

agreed FootyOnline - he was great to watch so entertaining :D

in the adelaide paper, there was an artical talking about the 1 day selectors toying with the idea of Gilly at 5 - whilest campbell is no Gilly, would be a good time to test that theory now or not? any opinions!

I actually think that if The Selctors go with MacGill as Warne's replacement, Haddin will get the nod because he's more used to keeping to him.

That said, Campbell really did tiem that spectacular innings well, didn't he? And it being in WA certainly helps his chances.

What are the odds we go in with 4 pacemen, backed up by the very gentle spin of Darren Lehmann?

I'd say the four paceman would be the way to go in Perth and there is only one game left before the tests start again so not really any need to call-up MacGill or Hauritz the only possible spinners that should maybe be called up for the Sri Lanka game are Hogg or Higgs spinners who can bat.
If Campbell wasn't to open who else would do it in the current side perhaps Lehmann did he used to do it for S.A a number of years back now.

Fair reasoning, but its no chance of happening. If they were going to pick on the ability to keep more so than batting ability, then Haddin would of been in the A team. The selectors obviously think Campbells a better batsmen than Haddin.

It will be intriuging to see who the spinner is for the remainder of the VB series. You would have to think Hauritz would get the nod, being in the A team, and would get the chance to prove himself for a place in the squad, but MacGill has been talked about in the papers today, and theres no doubt who the better bowler is out of the two. You never know they could even give White or Hogg a game if we have secured a spot in the finals early enough, pending on Hauritz/MacGill and Watsons form. Wishful thinking obviously.

opened

Some thoughts on the opening spot...

Martyn has a spectacular record as a ODI opener.

Lehmann can certainly do it, but his form is down at the moment.

Ponting could easily slide up the order... but he's pretty much perfect at 3.

I'd love to see Bevan given a chance to bat for an entire innings. If he weren't slightly dodgy against the pacemen, he could score big runs.

Campbell can open, but will be preferred as a lower-order slogger, i reckon.

What about Watson? What would be the harm of letting the kid have a go at it? He seems to need the chance to pace an innings.

One from left-field B. Lee? He's a clean hitter, and has a good record in Perth. Similoar thinking to the use of Kluesner as an opener on the last SA tour.

Damian Martyn has some experience, has done it a few times for WA, and made an unbeaten hundred in a One Dayer against New Zealand a couple of years ago.

Out of form he hasn't been dissmissed in the VB series yet.

He has failed to make an impact in the tests, and has had little time in the middle with the bat so far in this series.

Form has to be looked at in both modes of the game, not just the tests, or just the ODIs, but as a whole.

By that reasoning, his form is down.
