Bit bored and have a few weeks to kill. Im a bit over Football Manager and would love to get into a war game (for a PC) thats first person or strategy.

I dont want to buy a dud so whats out there thats good? Im not really up with games haha.

Got Vista and my Laptop is about a year old for those wondering.

Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway
They say you need to play the other games to under stand whats going on.
I didn't play any of the others games and i liked it a lot.
Very, very brutal

Just saying "Vista and a year old laptop" means very little. We need to know specs.

If you don't know how to, go to run and type "dxdiag" and run it. In there, tell me what the CPU, memory and video card specs are. Then we'll be able to recommend games.

I haven't been a huge CoD fan but apparently CoD 4 is much better than World at War.

World in Conflict was okay but I got sick of it. The storyline was very contrieved and almost to the point of embarrassing. It also requires a very hefty computer.

A year old laptop capable of running Vista should generally be able to run most games at some capacity.

Are you serious about the part in bold?

Depends on the type of laptop. Some laptops don't even have a graphics cards. The best regular laptop graphics cards are only 9600s which would probably manage to play all games but some only on low.

I played World in Conflict when I had a 8800 GTS 640mb which was good for its time. That desktop was better than 95% of current laptops and the game would lag quite heavily when things got hairy. RTS games often are harder to run than FPS because there are often so many more units on the screen at a time, even though they are less detailed. In an FPS it's often just you vs maybe 5 enemies on a screen max at a time and then the rest of the frame rate chugs come from things like trees, water, explosions etc.
