Health gurus of Bigfooty,

anyone done a water fast ie. consumed nothing but water for a set period of time?

5 days seem to be common, but I am looking to just go a 3 day one to start with.

Reasons, because of the supposed health benefits and a bit of a cleanse.

Anyone have any experience with them?

Can you do that, and still smoke marijuanas?

sounds like torture

I have done intermittent fasting before. It is quite easy really, during the day you just stay busy and you won't even notice your hunger, and the headaches go away by day 3.

water fasting is a level above though, when those dinnertime hunger pangs kick in, I'm not sure how to get past them.

Why don't you just combine it with Ramadan?

The no grogging rule has always pushed me towards the Catholics, show some latitude on that, and we'll talk.

There's somebody on here that reguarly does them, cant remember the name, Tiger supporter i think.

Ive done gallbladder flushes for the cleanse aspect, its pretty simple and is done in 1 day, just stay close to the loo. ;)

Bazzar

I've done 3 days several times. The second day is the worst. The third isn't too bad.

I think I would rather be fat and content. What a horrible idea.

it isn't really about weight loss. I mean you obviously do lose weight, but it's temporary. Its more about a detox which helps your heart, digestive system, and also increases your concentration and stress resistance.

None of that matters if you eat a balanced diet anyway.

We've had a few discussions on them on the health board.
Bazzar is your man for info.

I'm not sure about the supposed benefits, especially the amount claimed by that kid on YouTube you supposedly did the month long one.
He reckons you lose dead skin (the skin fat people have when they lose weight) which seems unreal.

Weight loss yes although that is a by product of fasting not the purpose, there is science behind it now.

I do them regularly, mostly 24 hours and the occasional 60 hours and as stated earlier Bazzar is a fountain of knowledge in this area although everything you need to know is somewhere in the thread below via some great posters and supplied links.

Is there any scientific basis to getting rid of "toxins"? I mean if you had harmful toxins sitting in you wouldn't you be sick? Most of what I read it is all baloney. Your organs filter any toxins in you all the time. If you are having your regular 2 litres of water a day you should be fine. Any weight loss is from low calories and probably dropping water weight.

there have been quite a few studies on fasting, like anything the question is who was studied, for how long and for what purpose

not eating isn't really a big seller for the food or diet industry, ie just don't eat once or twice a week for 24 hours and eat normal the other 5-6 days doesn't come with something they can sell like a shake

not eating for 24hrs is no big deal, there is some interesting info out there on what happens to your body the longer you go without food, we all fast overnight, sometimes people have busy days and don't eat from one dinner to the next, its quite doable

question really is what you are trying to achieve
