Hey sports fans long time listener first time caller - just curious as to what you all thought about the Wayne Carey interview on the footy show with Glenn Archer? Doesnt sound too positive either about keeping Carey at the club in any coaching role either :(

He was never a real option.

the best we can hope for is a consultant type role, (and i doubt that would be a good thing)

PS welcome to BF:)

From what I read in the Herald Sun website, I think there's 2 reasons not to be worried about Carey going back to the Roos... although if he did, I wouldn't really care since I don't think he'd be much value to us off the field anyway.

#1. "Archer was introduced before Carey to explain the reasoning behind the public reunion and while he appeared relaxed during this time, his body language clearly changed when Carey sat beside him. After a quick handshake, the two left as much space as possible between them when seated."

#2. I think the fact that Carey was "supported off-set by Adelaide Crows captain Mark Ricciuto" says a lot about his attachments to Adelaide in general.

Anyway, I obviously did not see the interview first hand, just going by what I read.

It certainly sounded like he was going down the media path with Foxtel and a couple of radio stations. It was heartening to hear his comments about his move to the AFC and the way he has been treated by the club and supporters.

Very strange interview though. It looks like it might actually be Carey who slows down (stops?) the reconciliation process. He explained that he actually didn't return Archer's call at first because he had moved on and left all that behind. I loved his comments towards Acker though - very funny.

From the way that Archer acted last night towards Carey, you would think that Wayne is doing the right thing with the stopping (?) reconciling with the club again. Obviously, all is not forgiven, which is fair enough..

It was an interesting interview to watch... but imo, they spent too much time talking about the affair.. like carey and archer both said, its going over old ground.. it just seemed sort of tacky to be talking about that for 90% of the time when they were there to raise money to help somebody out.

Carey was really in a lose-lose situation though.. No matter what he said, he was always going to be the most arrogant person around, and Archer would be such a champion for what he did..

But good on them both for getting together to do that! :)

... with saying that, anyone want to buy me carey's guernsey? :p

I didnt actually get to see the entire interview but from what I did see I thought it was pretty conclusive that he will not be part of the coaching panel for next season as he wants to enter the media.
I also though Trev's joke about whether or not his groin is still playing up was pretty tastless and very old.
He was there on behalf of a charity and he was getting digs at like that when obviously it is a very sensitive subject with both he and Arch there.
Considering Trev is a huge Kangaroos fan I was suprised he put him in that situation.

What a crock that was. Typical Eddie "world exclusive".

I felt a bit sorry for Wayne as it was clear that it order to do something for the guy with CP - he was going to cop a barrage from that twit Newman. I enjoyed his barb at Aka - there's a smack in the mouth I'd pay money to see.
Interesting the body language between Arch and Wayne....nothing is going to heal there in a million years. Clearly they are both focused on helping their mate - not reconciliation.
I was glad when Wayne said he had moved on so much that he didn't return Arch's calls straight away.
Newman again showed us that he is a confused old man who doesn't need to try too hard to put his foot in it. (PS did anyone else think he'd been on the grog b4 the show ? - I picked this up at the opening of the show)
That was the first time I've ever seen Marmalade lost for words.....I think he was ********ting himself - particularly after the glares he was getting from the big fella.
Great that Wayne asked idiot Newman to explain his personal life to the world wrt the plumber situation.
I think the biggest thing that got me fired up about last night was they (Eddie) spoke to that guy with CP for about half a minute - and used the rest of the time to grill Arch and Wayne. The whole "good cause thing" was completely highjacked by a barred-up Eddie and his typical sensationalist journalism. Shameful I thort...never let a good cause get in the way of a good story hey Ed ??
As for Wayne's movement's now - he was never going to stay here - good luck to him (and Sally) in whatever he does - I just hope he doesn't go crawling back to some reconciliation with the Kangas if it's going to be as staged as that was last night. Glad you've moved on Wayne - looks like no-one else has.

Was it reported that Roo was at the show, if he was it was a bit of a slap in the face to roo when eddie when on about the golden boy being left out of AA and Then insinuating that if he was AA jimmy would have been captain.

they didn’t show him.

The duck should become a ambassador for the AFC to keep some alliance there because W Carey is going to be a media star and Fox Footy will develop their brand with his name. As much crap as Carey gets the whole crowd were hanging on every word he said, and he worked Sam and idiot (Akermanis) beautifully.

any one know that Hitler joke sam was on about??

At least hitler could finish a race.
.. or something like that.

I sort of came up with a line like,

“at least Hitler didn’t pull out early in Poland, or some thing like that” No offence was meant to anyone by this comment

but l had no Idea what he was on about, finally it was a funny footy show again.

I thought Carey made it pretty clear that he was not there to reconcile but to help out the bloke with CP. You could see how uneasy everyone was. It was a classic to see Aker trying to suck up to Carey.

I think you are reading into something thats not there.

Firstly they got together for a great cause.

Secondly Wayne has no interest in coaching what so ever and is looking for a media career

Thirdly Roo was there because he won the Lou Richards Medal awarded by The Footy Show. He was there to receive the reward and a brand new Toyota Carmy.

I think you are reading way too much into something thats not there.

I still don’t understand the joke, why could Hitler finish a race???

History wasn’t my strongest subject.

But maybe this should go straight through to the keeper. :(

The joke started of slowly and then completely slackened off.

Bowled Shane :D

Thanks jc :)
Should really check my posts more often next time lol
I personally think Carey would have been a great attribute to have around the club not just working with the young forwards but also for his wealth of football knowledge in general. That said however cant blame him not wanting to go for the big bucks in media. But thats just my two cents

Ahh mate i can clearly see you're a man of good taste - I think i can handle another year of blue red and white up on the brewery stack ;)

Stiffy,

I'm not reading "into" anything. I just posted quotes from the article on the Herald Sun website. Obviously I didn't see the interview (being in the US).

As I said, I don't really care either way about whether Carey stays in Adelaide or not.

You're not still ********ed off 'cause I pointed out that Peja can't score in the playoffs are you? :D

Mate i coulnd't care less what you think of Peja:p

I just thought it would be worth mentioning that Roo was there because he won the Lou Richards Medal as the player of the year accodring to the Footy Show. He was there to accept the medal and keys to a new Toyota Camry;)

The Footy Show is absolute garbage anyway. It amazes me people whinge about it but continue to watch it. It's just a vehicle for Eddie to promote the Collingwood football club and bag the Non-Victorian sides. Sam Newman has become a sad bitter old man. That's my two bobs worth.

It's not just non-Victorian clubs they bag. They get stuck into anyone who is not going so well, they have bagged my club Hawthorn mercilessly all season. Over the years they have continued to bag Richmond, Geelong, Bulldogs, anyone who is not winning.
