AFL Club
Carlton
I was wondering why didn't he go and move to Richmond if he loves the club? Richmond was pretty good until the end of 1982. I find it strange he said he always goes for Richmond while Carlton was just a job. I would think Richmond could have match the same money,i wonder why he stayed. I know our list was great but the Tigers wasn't too bad, both clubs fell away after 1982 until we come back in 1986 but Harmes was a year or 2 being finished. I guess he will be at the game going for Richmond.

I wonder when Brendan Fevola retires will he still support St Kilda who he loved or Carlton. I would think if you won a flag you would convert for sure after all the good memory but i can understand some players supporting their old team they supported as a kid going to the game with their family.

AFL footballers are generally happy to be playing at the highest code of the game, rather the team they used to barrack for. If they get to do that fine, but most generally don't, especially with the draft.

What's yer point?

There isn't a point just find it strange Harmes will be giving it to Carlton to lose tomorrow while he has 3 flags with us. I guess it would be different if he was a ex player who never won a flag but played for us.

I wouldn't worry about that too much, Harmes played a significant role in us winning 3 flags and one against his beloved Tigers. His game in 82 GF was crucial to the outcome, he kicked the second goal of teh game and then cut out Bartlett who threatened to cut loose after he had kicked a couple on McConville.

Ex Nth Melb star Peter German was a fanatical Carlton supporter as a kid and from Oak Park like Harmes. He has the same hobby as me in collecting footy cards, this is where I met him once at card collectors shop in Prahran about 1993 - 1994. I asked him teh question about Carlton and if he still had a soft spot as he was still playing for Nth. His reply was that he grew a mad Blues supporter but his heroes were Doull, McKay, Jezza, Keogh etc not the current crop of players. He didnt say whether he still barracked for the Blues but he didnt come straight out and say he didnt - form your own opinion as I still thought he did.

Wayne Harmes is the nephew of Norm Smith. Harmes played alot of great games for Carlton, and who can forget his tap to Sheldon in the goal square in 1979

Certainly not Collingwood supporters who reckon he was somewhere on a Wellington Parade tram when he hit the thing back to Kenny. Wish he'd shutup about Richmond. Gilly never mentions his first sporting love as a kid anymore - mind you callisthenics rarely gets much media coverage.

Yeah, but you should see my rod exercises :)

Didn't Harmsey work for Dick Pratt? I remember seeing him around the Rezza Visy factory a few years ago.

True that. Bloke's been in a good paddock going by recent sightings.
