We've finally arrived at the final vote prior to the alteration period with still a number of good, solid players on the board. We seem to have a lot more competition this year, but it remains to be seen whether that will translate on the field.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For three years now we've voted on the Western Bulldogs' best 22 for the year ahead to establish a "consensus" BigFooty lineup to generate some discussion.

You know the drill by now: a number of players that I feel are relevant to the current section of the ground will be placed into a poll. You are to vote for as many players as is required.

For example, we'll be picking the the interchange bench from now until Friday, so you should vote for four players.

Feel free to discuss the selections on the thread but make sure you vote in the poll to ensure that your vote is counted. Only votes from Western Bulldogs supporters will be considered.

If you believe I've missed anybody that should be eligible in this position, let me know and I'll add them in.

That wasn't easy. Rolling pretty deep, I like it.
A lot depends on the newbies. If Lloyd and Cavarra, for example, can't make an impact, this exercise becomes a lot easier.

I do agree with you, though - there's a lot more competition across the board than there has been in previous years. My only fear is that we're probably going to have to choose between playing our best players and playing a balanced team, as a lot of our better players play similar games in similar positions.

That wasn't easy. Funny how the last spot is (currently) a battle between Caleb and English haha. Couldn't get much further apart in terms of players!
I went Caleb because I think he belongs in our 22, but it would also end up with Trengove being our only ruckman, so English is probably the "correct" last pick

Yes it's hard to escape this. The entire centre line and followers (except Trengove), as selected by BF consensus, are left footers. I'd start Richards on the left half back flank and play a right footer on the right wing personally. Some interesting decisions ahead for MC.

That's a really good bench prior to injuries. We fall of pretty hard after a couple of blokes going down though. Really need some luck this year.

I don't think we fall off badly at all. From the ones that don't make it include English, Lipinski, Greene, Dickson, Duryea, B Smith, Dale and Jong and obviously not including Picken and Boyd. I'd be comfortable with any of those guys in the 22 being able to play a role on game day.

We probably rate those guys a little differently. Dickson is a good option when fit. The others are sort of yet to prove themselves and I don't know enough about Duryea to make judgement. I wouldn't feel great about our chances against a lot of the league with 4 or more of those guys playing in the 1's.

It just staggers me that these two are starting in the consensus best 22 when you look at some of the players being left to fight for a spot on the bench.

My thoughts on Lloyd are well enough known, but Cavarra who aside from a skewed highlights package most wouldn't have ever seen play is particularly perplexing.

I have watched Cavarra since his days at Frankston, but you are correct our forward line is a little wanting. Cavarra will do well if he has
the big players to feed off and there it is.
