Stars battling with the Sixers right now for the most 'disappointing' team of the tournament so far given their squads pre-tournament.

Sixers at least have injuries

And in terms of most disappointing import, Bates and Dunkley would have to be clear Top 2 at the moment.

Bates easily. Least Dunkley doesn’t waste 20 balls crabbing around

Power Surge brings wickets

Sutherland gets a crucial wicket of Villani

Hobart need 69 off 8 overs with 6 in hand and its game on again.

Couldn’t believe she was this year was cooked last year
It's always interesting to see how quickly people forget, last season Susie Bates played the "anchor" role for the Sixers finishing in the top 10 for total runs scored with 318 @ 26.5. Her strike rate was a little low (104.6) but that was okay because Perry (119.6), Gardner (150.7), Healy (125.5) and Burns (145.3) were all dominating attacks at various stages last season. So far this season, she has been disappointing, but I wasn't surprised she was re-signed because she was good last season with the bat and in the field.

The problems the Sixers have this year, is Healy is out injured, Gardner's form has been mixed and Bates and Burns form has been non-existent. Perry has been good, but she is carrying the top order herself at the moment along with Maitlan Brown who has offered good support on a few occasions. And with the ball, Ecclestone isn't playing, Perry is unable to bowl, Peterson is going through second year blues and Tryon has been deplorable. In fact I've been more disappointed with the signing of Tryon than Bates, she has had one good innings with the bat and that is it. Why they didn't try and pick up Knight or Kaur is beyond me, or Dani Wyatt even though she doesn't bowl.

And yet the Sixers went from last to first with Susie as the achor, you would perhaps want her to score at 110+ instead of 105, but you still need a player to hold up one and keep the scoreboard ticking over if there is a run of wickets. If you don't have an achor at one end you are liable to be all out for 29 or worse still 15.

We didn't need an opener until 3 days after the start of the season, but Attapatu was also an option.

Attapatu could do exactly that and a bowling option it made no sense let’s not pretend Bates was in any form this year. It’s not a shock

didn't know Suzie had a bigfooty account.
a lot can happen in a year for a 36 year old, her form has been horrendous and even though she scored okay last year she wasn't exactly great.

Healy injury hasn't helped even though she plays one good innings every 10.

Bowling has been a problem for them too

Which is pretty much what I said in an earlier post, while trying to remain "gentlemanly" and not mentioning her age. :)

Game 21 at the WACA

Sydney Sixers Women (Playing XI): Suzie Bates, Ellyse Perry(c), Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Chloe Tryon, Maitlan Brown, Mathilda Carmichael, Kate Pelle(w), Kate Peterson, Linsey Smith, Lauren Cheatle

Adelaide Strikers Women (Playing XI): Katie Mack, Laura Wolvaardt, Tahlia McGrath(c), Bridget Patterson(w), Danielle Gibson, Georgia Adams, Annie O Neil, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Jemma Barsby, Megan Schutt, Anesu Mushangwe

Adelaide Strikers Women have won the toss and have opted to field

This is the equivalent of West Coast v Collingwood in the AFL . Two teams on opposite sides of the spectrum.

So why draft her. Yeah injuries have occurred but jeez haven’t helped yourselves

I’m guessing those who make the decisions wanted some stability after a couple of poor season previously. Also, as stated she played well last season.

She hasnt been playing well in the internationals from what I have seen. I dont think , there comes a stage in a cricketers life where you lose that natural instinct.

I think we may have seen that period this year. She has been a stalwart for Kiwi cricket but any team will be taking a backwards step getting her next season.

Does look like a fairly green wicket at the WACA today. One gathers this might be the wicket they use on Sunday for the double header as well.
