Match Summary

CARLTON has won their first game in 2018 after a thrilling win over the Crows at Adelaide Oval. Adelaide led for most of the match, but a decisive last quarter proved the difference as Carlton snatched victory by 1 point.

Adelaide got the only 2 goals of the opening term after a downpour of rain in the morning made conditions not ideal for the big blokes. Luke Lowden opened the scoring for Adelaide, before Tom Lynch followed suit. Adelaide took a 2 goal lead into the quarter time break and looked to have got used to the wet conditions quicker than the Blues. Ricky Henderson and Kade Simpson led the way for their respective sides with 8 touches each in the first term. Daniel Talia and Jacob Weitering had 7, while Tom Doedee, Zach Tuohy, Ciaran Byrne, Jesse Glass-McCasker and Alec Waterman had 6 each.

Carlton pegged back the lead during the 2nd quarter, kicking 2 goals to 1 to trail by 1 point at half time. Blaine Boekhorst opened the scoring, securing the Blues first goal of the game, before Adelaide ruckman Sam Jacobs responded. Inaccuracy cost the Blues a chance at leading at half time, kicking 2.5 for the quarter. Wylie Buzza slotted his 1st of the day late in the 2nd quarter. Ricky Henderson, Tom Doedee and Bryce Gibbs had 14 touches each to half time, while Richard Douglas and Daniel Talia had 13 each. Jacob Weitering was Carlton's next best with 11, alongside Ciaran Byrne, who also had 11.

2 goals were scored in the 3rd term, one to each team as the game was headed to a tense final term. Blaine Boekhorst opened the scoring in the 3rd term, with his 2nd goal of the day. Midfielder Matt Crouch slotted Adelaide's only goal for the term shortly after that and it was a deadlock for the remainder of the quarter, as the Crows took a 3 point lead into 3 quarter time. Ricky Henderson had 21 touches to 3 quarter time, while Richard Douglas had 20. Tom Doedee was next best with 19, while Rory Laird and Curtly Hampton had 18 a piece. Zach Tuohy, Sam Docherty, Jacob Weitering, Marcus Adams and Ciaran Byrne all had 16 touches for the Blues, while Bryce Gibbs had 15.

The 4th term was vastly different to what we had seen in the opening 3 quarters with a combined 9 goals kicked for the quarter. Carlton opened the scoring with the first 2 goals, through Stanley and Kerridge to take the lead early on, before Matt Crouch slotted his 2nd goal. James Rose got his 1st of the day shortly after, extending the Blues lead, until Charlie Cameron and Matt Crouch took back the lead for the Crows. Blaine Boekhorst slotted his 3rd for the day, quickly followed by Andrejs Everitt, who gave the Blues a 7 point lead, before Josh Jenkins got the Crows back to within 1 point. Both sides had chances to either extend the lead or steal the lead, but weren't able to convert. Carlton held on to win by 1 point.

RICHMOND has won their 3rd game of 2018, in as many rounds, after they defeated Carlton by 8 points at the MCG on a cold Saturday night.

It was a very slow start to the game, as only 2 goals were kicked in the opening term, as both teams didn't have their kicking boots on early. Andrejs Everitt slotted the first goal of the game, in the 18th minute, after 7 behinds were kicked. Richmond responded minutes later through Sam Lloyd, who put through his side's first from 45m. Carlton held a 1 point lead at quarter time. Alex Rance had 9 touches, while Chris Yarran had 8. Shane Edwards, Brandon Ellis and Ben Lennon had 7 each for the Tigers. Over at the Blues, Zach Tuohy and Marcus Adams had 7 touches each, while Matthew Wright, Jesse Glass-McCasker, Ciaran Byrne, Wylie Buzza and Alec Waterman all had 6 touches.

The goals started to come in the 2nd term and it was the Tigers who had the best of it, as they kicked 4 of the first 5 goals of the quarter to take the lead. Shaun Hampson opened the scoring, quickly followed by Matthew Wright. Ty Vickery responded shortly after that, as 3 goals were kicked in the opening 2 and a half minutes of the quarter. Ben Lennon slotted his 1st of the game and was followed by Ty Vickery, who bagged his 2nd of the quarter, before Carlton were able to get 2 late goals, through Andrejs Everitt and Wylie Buzza. Richmond took a 4 point lead into half time. James Rose had a massive 2nd term, having 14 touches, which took his total to 17 for the half. Zach Tuohy had 14, Alec Waterman 13 and Matthew Wright 11 for the Blues. Brandon Ellis had 16 for the Tigers, while Nick Vlastuin and Ben Lennon had 15. Chris Yarran had 14 and Sam Lloyd had 12.

Richmond took their 2nd quarter momentum into the 3rd term as they slotted the first 4 goals of the term. Skipper Trent Cotchin got the first of the 2nd half, as Ben Lennon slotted his 2nd and 3rd of the game, before his counterpart Sam Lloyd snagged his 2nd. James Rose and Andrejs Everitt got Carlton's 2 goals of the quarter, as the Tigers led by 15 points at 3 quarter time. Ben Lennon had 9 touches and 2 goals in the 3rd term, as he took his total to 24 touches and 3 goals to 3 quarter time. Shane Edwards had 22 touches, Nick Vlastuin 21 and Sam Lloyd 20. While at the Blues, James Rose had 22, Zach Tuohy 21 and Alec Waterman 20.

Carlton opened the scoring in the last quarter, as Matthew Wright slotted his 2nd of the game, before Richmond responded through Shaun Hampson. James Rose slotted his 2nd goal of the game to close the gap, but Richmond were able to sneak one past the defence, as Anthony Miles ran into an open goal. Wylie Buzza got a late consolation goal for the Blues as the Tigers ran out 8 point winners.

Good too see Alec Waterman live up to my apraisal.
He's good just about everywhere. I hadn't played him much in the mid field but I might seeing as though he does well with clearances.

yeah, he has been great. pushed Sam Kerridge out of the side at the moment, which is good to see that there is a competition for spots. Probably leading the BF after 3 games, which is a great result for him.

Big game against the Saints coming up, so will be interesting to see how we go

Match Summary
upload_2016-7-3_10-59-25.png

CARLTON has won their 2nd game of 2018, with an 18 point win over the Saints at Etihad.

St Kilda had the best of it to start the game, as youngsters Luke Dunstan and Jack Billings slotted the opening goals of the game as the Saints had control of the game for the first 20 minutes, until Wylie Buzza slotted the Blues first. He was quickly followed by a goal from James Rose as the Blues cut the quarter time margin from 14 to 2. Sam Docherty and James Rose had 9 touches each in the opening term, the best of any player on the ground. They were closely followed by Jack Silvagni, who had 8 playing off half back, while Patrick Cripps and Matthew Wright had 7 each. For the Saints, Dylan Grimes and Brandon White had 7 each, while Jack Sinclair and Jack Lonie had 6 touches. Carlos Carrigan rounded out the top 5 for the Saints, as he amassed 5 touches.

St Kilda got the opening goal of the 2nd term, but it was all Carlton after that. Once Luke Dunstan slotted his 2nd of the game, Carlton slotted the next 4 of the quarter, as Blaine Boekhorst, Rhys Mathieson (1st career goal) and Andrejs Everitt (2) all slotted goals. St Kilda were able to peg it back, with goals to Luke Dunstan (2) and Paddy McCartin, as Dunstan made it 4 in the first half for himself. Jake Lloyd slotted a late goal for the Blues as they took a 10 point lead into half time. James Rose led all comers with 18 touches, while Patrick Cripps was next best with 16. Sam Docherty (15), Alec Waterman (14) and Zach Tuohy (12) all contributed strongly in the first half for the Blues. Seb Ross and Hugh Goddard led the Saints with 15 touches each. They were followed by Carlos Carrigan who had 12, as Blake Acres had 11 and Jack Sinclair 10.

Carlton took their 2nd quarter momentum into the 3rd term, as they piled on the opening 5 goals of the term. Matthew Wright got proceedings underway, as he was followed by goals from Alec Waterman (1st career goal), Andrejs Everitt, Jack Silvagni and Wylie Buzza. Jack Sinclair was able to break the Blues goal streak, with his 1st, as Luke Dunstan slotted his 5th shortly after. Jack Silvagni added his 2nd goal to extend the Blues lead to 35, before Paddy McCartin slotted a late goal to get the margin back under 5 goals at 3 quarter time. James Rose, again, led all comers with 25 touches up to 3 quarter time. He was followed closely by Patrick Cripps (23) and Sam Docherty (21). Matthew Wright and Zach Tuohy had 19 touches and 18 touches respectively for the Blues. Hugh Goddard led the way for the Saints with 21 touches, while Blake Acres had 20. Seb Ross (19), Jack Lonie (16) and Brandon White (16) were also up the top for disposals.

St Kilda won the last term, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Blues. Blues defender Marcus Adams went down early with a back injury and looks to be in serious doubt for the next couple of months. That forced a reshuffle of the Blues backline, which left them unstable and the Saints took full advantage of that, slotting 3 of the quarter's 4 goals. Raymond Moore started proceedings for the Saints, before Shaun Edwards slotted his 1st for the Blues. Paddy McCartin slotted his 3rd for the game, as Raymond Moore made it 2 in the quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Blues ran out 18 point winners.

Rhys Stanley looks promising. It's hard to find the hard working across ground ruckman.
I'd be more than happy if I could get 18 disposals and 25 hit outs from my ruckmen.

Matthew Kruezer wins the brownlow a lot in this game

btw you guys are brave, I feel bad starting a career with a team thats not Richmond, almost as though im changing teams :O

im debating whether to continue playing the games or start siming them for quicker results.
have lost a bit of interest in this story at the moment.
if i do start siming them, it means i can continue the story a lot quicker, but it means the SC points scoring i do, will have to change, as the free kicks dont show up if you sim them.....
It also means i get more realistic results and the main players are actually playing well!
thoughts?

ROUND 7 PREVIEW - CARLTON BLUES V COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES

Carlton take on old rivals Collingwood in round 7 of the 2018 season. It is a big game in terms of setting up their season, with Collingwood 4-2, while the Blues are 3-3. There is a lot at stake with this clash. Carlton have got the better of the Pies in their recent meetings, winning 3 of the past 4.

Collingwood have a couple of big losses through injury, with midfielders Jack Crisp and Jordan de Goey out for an extended period. These are big losses to cover for the Pies, as Crisp gives them a lot of run on the outside, while de Goey is the tough nut, who does his best work at the stoppages.

Carlton are a bit depleted in terms of their talls, with Matthew Kreuzer, Marcus Adams and Jesse Glass-McCasker out with injury.

Match Summary

CARLTON has held on to win by 20 points over old rivals Collingwood in a thrilling, yet low scoring, affair on Saturday night.
Carlton suffered a big loss before the game, losing ruckman Rhys Stanley to injury and will have to rely on youngster Harry McKay and Wylie Buzza to carry the load.

Carlton slotted the first goal of the game, through star midfielder Patrick Cripps, but due to inaccuracy, couldn't get the lead at quarter time, as Collingwood slotted the next 2 goals of the quarter to lead by 3 points at quarter time. Ciaran Byrne led the way with 11 disposals in the first term, while Brent Macaffer had 10 touches and a goal. David Armitage and Alex Fasolo had 9 touches, with Fasolo adding a goal, while Sam Docherty, Jacob Weitering, Matthew Wright and Jackson Ramsay all having 7 touches.

Carlton gained a little more control in the 2nd term and had their kicking boots on in this term. Shaun Edwards got the opening goal of the quarter, before James Rose slotted the next 2 to extend the Blues lead to 15 points. The Blues defence was magnificent in this term, keeping the Pies to 1 behind for the term. Brent Macaffer led all comers with 18 touches, while Ciaran Byrne had 16. Patrick Cripps, David Armitage and Matthew Wright all had 14 for the Blues, while Alex Fasolo had 14 touches for the Pies.

Collingwood cut back the margin at the start of the 3rd term, with goals to Brent Macaffer and Jamie Elliott, before Carlton responded with the next 2 goals, through Shaun Edwards and Wylie Buzza. Brent Macaffer slotted his 3rd of the game, not long after, but his team couldn't stop the Blues from slotting a late goal to make the margin 13 points at 3 quarter time. Brent Macaffer had 28 touches and 3 goal at 3 quarter time to be BOG. Ciaran Byrne and Alec Waterman had 21 touches at 3 quarter time for the Blues, while stars Patrick Cripps and David Armitage had 20. Alex Fasolo had 19 touches for the Pies, while Jamie Elliott had 16.

Collingwood got the opening goal of the final term, through Taylor Adams, but that would be the only major they got in the 4th quarter, as the Blues defence held tight and were able to give the Blues the advantage in the final term. James Rose slotted his 3rd of the game, while Patrick Cripps got his 2nd not long after, as the Blues ran out 20 point winners.

ROUND 8 PREVIEW - BRISBANE LIONS V CARLTON BLUES
_______________________________________________________________________________

Carlton travel to Brisbane to take on the Brisbane Lions in round 8. The Lions are having a great start to the season, currently sitting 3rd, with 4 wins and 2 losses, while the Blues are 8th with 4 wins and 3 losses. Carlton are % inside the 8 at the moment, so need to win here to secure their spot for another week.

The Blues have taken a hit in their talls department, with Marcus Adams, Jesse Glass-McCasker and Rhys Stanley all injured and Matthew Kreuzer not fit enough to play in the seniors. Last week, they had to rely on part timers in Harry McKay and Wylie Buzza, but have the option of bringing in Calvin Holdsworth to shoulder the ruck work. It will be a tough task nonetheless as they are coming up against Ben McEvoy.

Brisbane will be without star midfielder Jack Steven and tall forward Dan McStay. Tom Cutler and Nick Robertson will also miss.
