We are underestimated

I was having a look through the AFL board and have realised that other BF members are underestimating us.

I have said it before, but we are really the sleeping giant. People just don't realise who strong we are financially - they seem happy to group us with the Bulldogs and Kangaroos in terms of financial strength

What a joke! I just hope we put it together on the field because the sleeping giant will awaken from its slumber!

A lot of people just dont rate us BECAUSE we are hawthorn... and we are a team they dont want to see suceed. Thats cool. I just dont like seeing AC being called a bad coach, UNTIL he has had a bit of experience, or better yet, more than 25% of our team get off their 'P' plates.

I agree Frank - They pick out a couple of games against interstate clubs that draw a low crowd (which could be done with every club) - and pool us in with the small clubs...

If we had half the media exposure that Collingwood, Essendon and Carlton got - who knows where we would be?

If you take a look at the poll on the official AFL site you'll see of over 6000 voters polled, 26% agree we have the best developing squad of the developing teams. Tigers are second with 20%, so a lot of footy fans are expecting big things from our club over the coming years.

Lets hope our talented group can take us to a flag sooner rather than later.

I'm excited because our winning margins and the style of play we produced in our winning matches was the quality of football required to beat the top sides. It's exciting, but we are only infants compared to much of the competition. We hammered Carlton and Essendon for halves, thumped Geelong and Richmond and were up by about 8 goals against Fremantle too. For mine, a team who wins by 7 goals when they are in their second year of rebuilding is going places.

I agree 100%, we have been crap for a very long time.

We are a developing young side, but we have beaten nobody.

I am still giving us 3 years before we see us consistently making the
eight and raising the awareness of the filthy and unwashed.

This is true, however this is what makes me confident about the clubs future. Our brand (as rated by BRW magazine) is about three or four in the league and our financial performance has been consistent over this time. Our balance sheet is very strong and asset base is increasing.

If we can perform so well financial during bad times, it is exciting to consider where we will be when success finally returns.

I agree, in terms of financial strength, Hawthorn is severely underated on Bigfooty. THe long term Melbourne future of the club seems to be assured. We have built a prosperous club on the back of ten years of poor performance. When it comes to medium-long term survival, the hawks are far far ahead of clubs like Richmond, St Kilda and Melbourne, let alone the bulldogs and Kangas.

I'm not referring to on-field success, I am referring solely to the financial strength of the club. I mean there are some posters continually catergorise us with the bulldogs as the next relocation target.

But then again, alot of people provide opinions without any foundation whatsoever.

Agreed - Geelong would be better defined as the 'Home of Teenage Pregnancy' rather than the 'Home of the AFL's Most Under-Rated Football Club'

They could be at risk of going the way of the NBL 'Geelong Supercats' if they keep recruiting players of the Brad Ottens ilk
