people have been saying we are going to pick up - David Mundy who is a tall rebounding Full Back - who is about 190 cm tall.

here below are some of his details -

David Mundy - Murray Bushrangers - Jul 20, 85 - 190 - 83 - 32

Tall, outside key defender who has pace. Is a long, accurate kick and has a cool head under pressure. Spoiling and smothering is exceptional and is capable of going forward. From Seymour FC.

I think we should go for a tall defender, so to replace Shane Wakelin in a few years time. And seeing the fact we have picked up Brayden Shaw, already who is a class centreman; it would be a good balance to get a tall defender.

what do you people think?

I'd love to see us pick up a key forward to release Tazza. I think he is the most damaging not playing as a FF. I think that a good forward (hard to find I know) would be invaluable.

we have Cameon Cloke/Tom Davidson to fill a forward postion and free Chris Tarrant.

we need a young key backman; and this kid looks to fit the bill, in time.

Mundy sounds good and wouldn't mind getting him, wish we had some better picks, but ah well

and we already have a ff to release tazza in davidson who would've played this year if it wasn't for a knee injury

im not too fussed with having that many good picks in the draft, seeing we have alot of good kids at Collingwood anyway.

with doing so well, with the father son rule and the likely prospect of getting Travis Cloke next year; who is rated highly as a future key position player, we are going to do well in the young player deptartment.

Our centre line is ageing abit so in the next few drafts, we should just go all out and pick the best centreline players available to us.

Brayden Shaw is a real bonus for us.
Heath Shaw is a risk but who know's?

The one good think about not getting Stevens is we get to keep pick 17.

In a perfect world, pick 17 will kick an after the siren goal against Port in the Grand Final when we are 5 points down and then go on and win the Brownlow just to stick it up them.

yeah nick i always wanted to keep pick 17 instead of getting stevens as 17 could produce a great player. Brayden is a gun while Heath shaw hasn't done much to impress me and i think we only got him because of the name but who knows i might be proven wrong

Heath has shown rapid improvement and the suggestion is, if he continues to improve, he could be at least as good as Brayden. Eitherway, his stats haven't been too bad playing off a forward flank and he's kicked goals regularly. Will be interesting to see if his upwards trend continues.

David Mundy

Details:
Club: Seymour
DOB: 20 Jul 85 Hgt: 190cm Wgt: 83kg
Position: Full Back
Natural foot: Right

Honours:
Victoria Country 2003
National Draft Camp 2003

TAC Stats:
2002: 13 games, 3 goals, 13.5 PPG.
2003: 17 games, 6 goals, 16.8 PPG.

Profile:
David Mundy has really come on this year to be one of the best full backs in the TAC. He has several assets that mean he is sure to be looked at early in the draft.

Mundy is very athletic, and beat nearly every opponent I saw him play on this year. He is extremely agile and will back his judgement to beat his opponent to the ball. One of the best games I saw him play was on Luke Herrington in the carnival. Mundy played in front and backed himself, taking a lot of marks and the points.

He is an extremely long and accurate kick, he always took the kickouts for Murray. He nearly always went long, and his short passes are nowhere near as classy.

Mundy is disciplined, does a lot of team acts that don't get credit such as spoiling and smothering. Hands are pretty clean, will provide rebound as well as closing man down.

I thought he played well in every game I saw him in, and would happily use a 2nd round pick on him, if not slightly earlier. Should make it at AFL level.

.............................

He sounds very good and just what we need (would be nice if he was another inch taller though).

Where did you hear about our interest The Clokes???

I generally say take the best available but for one I'd change that. Unless there are no decent talls I would take the best KPP. Generally I would go for a forward over a defender because they are generally the better footballers. If you tgake the best CHF/FF you can always turn him into a defender.

I agree. Wasn't Presti a key forward at under 18 level?

I'll respond to that with a "Yes, but...".

Yes, but what are the odds of Tarrant ever going down back? Or Tom Davidson for that matter??

Rocca's not ****, but he's required down forward and he a number 2 draft pick, so you can see that the "dual" role doesn't come cheaply.

Has Matty Scarlett ever "pinch hit" down forward and is he/will he even capable of doing so??

As Nic pointed out, Presti was supposed to be a forward. That doesn't mean he is one now.

Fletcher has gone forward, but with limited results.

Pavlich and Leppitch are your ideal multi-taskers, but you'd have to fluke one or finish last in a good draft!

But to every Pav/Lep that can play forward and back, there's about 20 who can't! Jakovich is crap at it, Graham was shakey at best. And none of the players I've mentioned have been anything short of excellent, it's just they can't play "forward and back".

And then there's the top four draft pick from three years ago who could play forward and back and turns out he can't do either!

If you think about it, pretty much all of the best defenders are just that...defenders.

Walker may come good, but I'm saying that out of the hope from the glimpses of good I've seen. We "invested" pick 72 on him. The two current Cloke boys will play their role, but I don't think that will be a KP defensive role.

We've spent the last 5 years building with good yound tough midfielders, with some skinny rucks and forwards, and have had one year where we picked up a very raw defender as an afterthought. Will sound weird, especially to you Mark, but I think we have less depth in our defensive talls (2 spots) than we do in our ruck (1 spot).

We chose not to sacrifice our quality youngsters for Stevens. What we must do, is ensure they are well supported by quality youngsters in the surrounding positions. We have to invest an early pick on the best available defender. If he's another Pavlich, then whoopdeedo...but you and I both know, that's not bloody likely, so a defender first and foremeost.

If Mundy or Gayfer is still around at pick 17, we should jump on it like me on a beer at 5pm this arvo!!

I rekon we should go for the smokie in Chris Stewart.

My mate at played with him in the U16 carnival for VIC metro last year and rates him very highly.

Apparantly very talented but very raw. Could be anything and can play at both ends.

Or if we want to be conservative, William Gayfer, Bill Morrison, Chad Jones, Michael Pettigrew, Daniel McConnell.

Mundy seems athletic but I've seen him listed as a 187 as and also 189cm's aside from 190cm which aint a good height for a KPP.

Althought this isn't pick No. 7 we are talking about, I'll pay that.

I'm up for Morrison, Mundy or Gayfer if we have the chance.

All it takes is an early pick to go unexpectedley (Brennan, Walsh, McVeigh) for players to start falling into teams laps (Schammer, Salopek, Faulkner)

We are said to be one of around 6 clubs (West Coast and Fremantle + 3 other Vic clubs) interested in Callum Burges.

I don't like the sound of that Mundy. Sure he might turn out to be a great player, he doesn't sound like a KPP. Remember Bo Nixon was a Centre Half Forward but is too small to be a real KPP at AFL level. If we need a key back get a player around 192cm.

One of my major gripes is the use of Lonie. I think he is being wasted on a half back flank. He should either be used in the wing/midfield a forward flank or have a role as a 3rd key defender maybe. He is certainly tall enough and his defence in the air is pretty good. In 2003, there were many occasions where the oppostion tried to negate Lonie's run by forcing him to play one on one in the square. On just about every occasion Lonie would beat his opponent in that situation which makes me think he would be an alright KPP. Also in the game against Geelong he played against that young Playfair who was like 8cm's taller than him. Despite his strength and height disadvantage Lonie won every air and ground contest and also ran dangerously off his oponent. I think it's worth a try.
