or else the year will be another wasted 1.

Im not suggesting Finals here, if we do fantastic but most of us suggest that if we had Stevo this year we may have got over the line in 3/4 more games. Therefore if we bring him back in the side + Judd and another year of development to our younger boys - Pagan 9 wins is an absolute minimum.

I will be very disappointed if we dont reach this target come years end.

Re: We Must Win More Than 9 Games In 2009

I just want to see development. Player development, and development of our gameplan. With the talent we have, a top-8 finish is a real possibility. But the main objective is laying the foundation to win flags. Multiple flags. That is the prioirty. Not interested in making the 8 with a no-upside list like the Pies or Port. Winning flags is what it's all about. Nothing else matters. :)

Re: We Must Win More Than 9 Games In 2009

Do you mean 2008, I am an optimist and believe we can win 12-13 games next year, everything being equal. That will put us into the finals.

Does anyone else think this is realistic??

we'll see a change of attitude this year wonder if they were deliberately losing so they can get Pagan Sacked? been a fair bit latly in the Herald sun bits out of Koutas new Book being released.

It's possible. There are just so many changes going into 2008, it's real hard to set expectations. Adding Judd and Stevens to the midfield is going to increase our forward line delivery enormously. And late in the season there were a lot of signs that players like Grigg, Hampson, Jackson, Jamison, Bower and Setanta will progress faster than expected. The midfield not only has quality, but has real depth. Having the best midfiedler in the AFL delivering to the best FF in the AFL is going to be spectacular. Gibbs and Murph will progress nicely next year, without the heavy tagging attention. :)

Now last year Mr Pratt wanted 10 wins wasnt it or was it 10th spot on the ladder....I believe with a stronger playing list and further development that this should be a pass...But you can always do better then just pass :)

I also think confidence and momentum is massive for our young list, Judd and all the positives to come from these changes will give us confidence, if they also bring results (which I believe they will) I hope we can get some momentum going and string a few together, (25 wins in a row would be nice), lol...:D

Pfft, why hope for 9? Thats only 2 or 3 games outta the 8. That should be seen as failure (we're Carlton, remember?).

I hope the players arent thinking 8 or 9 wins will be a good year (doubt they are). Sure, we've sucked the last few years, but the only way to succeed is to aim high and be absolutley dirty on yourself if you fail.

Everyone needs to go into the year aiming at winning the flag. Anything less and there's no point supporting your team. There is only one hard team to beat and that is Geelong. The rest are almost in the same position as us.

We still have Jammo on 4/5 games
Bryce - 22
Murph - 35 ish
Hammer - 2
Bower - 7ish
Betts - 50ish
Setanta - 30
Aisake - 0
Ando 5-7
JR 30ish
Jacko < 10
Grigg 3

08 is about a/getting games into and developing these guys
b/developing the game plan
c/ establishing best structure and hopefully settling players Setant,Waite etc in long term roles
d/ get that winning feeling back into the guys and singing da da da da more often
e/ giving the finals the best push we can

I really would prefer we kept playing the kids next year instead of Saddo,Wiggo and Banno even if it results in a slightly worse best 22 on the day.
We will be rewarded in 09 and beyong for getting games into the kids in 08

I agree it is all about building sides for your next premierships not your next final appearance and losing the first week.... so it does not matter where we finish next year although the top 8 would be nice it is all about winning a flag in the next five years:thumbsu:

I think 10 wins would be a good effort for next year, considering where we have come from over the past few seasons. I still think 2009 will be the year that we really start to not only challenge for a finals spot, but I think we could really push well up into the 8.

development..development..development

Parrot is spot on. As long as we start to see solid signs of improvement, the wins will take care of themselves. Putting an exact number on it at the moment is not the best guage.

(I do disagree with Parrot's assessment of Pies and Power though. Those 2 sides, as much as we may hate them, have extremely solid lists with a great mix of youngsters. They will both be genuine challengers in coming years)

I think if we got Ben Cousins in the pre season draft then we should be aiming to win the premership.

Guys imagine an on ball division of Judd, Cousins, Stevens, Murphy, Scotland, Carazzo.

I would agrue this is one of the all time best on ball divisions ever assembled.

Lets say Ben spent 3 months in rehab ... remained super fit then he would be ready to roar by round 1.

10 games is a reasonable target. Whatever happens, it won't be a wasted year because there'll be a lot of kids getting valuable experience, and developing their bodies.

The fact that we play only 4 interstae (2 at AAMI where we go alright) might swing in our favour. I've had a look at the fixture and i think we should win between 10-12 games next year.

At carlton or out o fthe entire AFL? Carlton i can understand, but the Fab 5 from a few years ago, and W.C.E from 2005-2006 was pretty good...

Absolutely Albyg!

My expectations for '08 are to make the 2nd week of the finals, and then the Grand final in '09!!!!!

Why NOT ???

No 1 is saying that we shouldnt expect to play in the finals. Just suggesting that we should expect nothing less than 9 wins realistically.

I think Port will continue to rise with there great development of younger players and recruiting, something we should have been doing 10 years ago..

Ben Cousins will not play AFL football again IMO.

But definately not next year atleast.

No way known......we have first got to see what's the best combination of players is the best fit. If you read all the threads there is about 36 players who may or may not get a game next year. We've got to try them all so we won't have a settled side for a while. The other issue we still haven't got a strong settled goal to goal line. We are still desperately short of KPP's. We certainly have a good number of Mid Field runners but the KPP's is still a worry.
Then on top of that, if we win 12-13 games we would be well in the 8.
Tell me the 8 teams you consider will be below the Blues.Yep, maybe Richmond, Essendon then ???????
Surely the other teams are going to improve as well
