Campbell is underperforming and has been for 4 years.
He's a stats man and cant turn a game around,
in fact i dont think he ever has.

Worst in the competotion as far as leaders go,

Part of the old psyche, the one that buried us.

Sick of him throwing the ball onto his boot and it going straight up into the air and down again and it being
counted as a stat.

Nathan Brown for Captain.

Campbell
Gasper
Bowden
Kellaway
Rogers
Richardson

All these players need to be gotten rid of before we can
become a threat again.

We need to re-build from the ground up and having these guys
on the list makes it impossible as they are supposed kpps.

2005 CLEAN OUT TIME.

Hmmmm

Well I agree that the players have to pay.

We'd be a younger unit...which is good ...with only Stafford, Marsh and A.kellaway left in the older bracket.

It'd be a hard cull with a lot of old faves harshly dealt with.
If I read this 4 weeks ago...i'd be screaming.

But maybe it's true.

One thing's for sure....

we'd get the next 4 priority picks and we'd win 12 games at most in the next 3 years

The salary cap would be easier.

We can't go any lower than we are now...except for extinct.

Im shocked you semi agreed Dirty

Happy but shocked.:) -

BTW, As harsh as it may seem,It's a good plan !

Let's not use the E word just yet.(Extinct)

Good idea would be to get used to the wooden spoon end of the
ladder,knowing that we're re-building with youth.
Forget our pride.

The AFL System structure forces battling, middle order teams
to resort to this as they have no support for them.
IMO, It's their way of culling the comp and eventually getting rid
of a couple of Vic teams (maybe even 4)

God I hate them.

Next year Cogs must get the job. We need a hard nut as Captain to lead by example. Let him rest up this year and fix his problem, then throw him the captaincy and watch him shine, and hopefully keep him at the Club!

Agreed. Let him have the rest of the year off and get him 100%.
I've been saying for a long time campbell is the worst leader in the AFL. His disposal kills us. Not a match winner.

There is only 2 options regarding our captaincy. Yes a change is needed and I think you would find even campbell would agree as his ageing body takes its toll.

Mark Coughlan is my preferred choice, this kid has leadership written all over him, and you only have to take Wayne Carey - Kangaroos example or a West Coast - Ben cousins as an example that your never to young to be a captain.

My second choice would be Nathan Brown, only because of the guy's natural ability, but it would depend whether he would want the job considering this is his first year at Richmond.

The rest of the team is not worthy of such an honour.

What a sad indictment on this club that Brown and Cogs are the only two with potential captaincy honors. Sad that Brown is a new recruit and is already being bandied around as captain. The rest of the playing group should be ashamed of themselves. The rate things are going, cogs will be burnt out very very quickly with all these high expectations. Players like carey only come around once every 25 years or so.

What about Ottens? considering how stagnant his playing development has become maybe the responsibility of being captain might help him improve his game.

Ottens? LOL sorry im having a "Brad Ottens is crap week"

This guy is like Richo, came to the club with the world at his feet and a footy ability that should have taken us to the next level and he is as overated as Rodan.

How long has this guy been at Richmond now? 5 years? before you know it he will like Richo and be here 10 years with probably 2 years of good footy to show for it.

Richmond will pay heaven and earth to keep this guy at seasons end, much like we do at Richmond overpay average players, whereby they should be getting rid of him for the right price now before he becomes a Richo and we get nothing for him.

If we lose ottens at years end I wont be crying over it thats for sure.

Trouble is Ottens has the potential to head to another Club, one that knows how to get the best out of him, and he will become a genuine superstar. He needs a new environment or a new coach to get the best out of him. I think it was Stan Alves who commented on Ottens the other day, saying that he will never be a ruckman so Richmond should stop tyring to make him one, he would be best suited as a CHF. He can run, mark and usually kick straight. He just needs his confidence back. I would play him, and leave him at CHF on Friday, and see what he can do. He's not a ruckman.

Thats why I think captaincy might show us whether he is the real deal. Ottens really seems to be going backwards (his kicking and marking have gone to the dirtydogs), although the woefull state of our team wouldn't be helping him.

Well if Ottens goes to another club and becomes a superstar for them, goodluck to him!
Im tired of wishing he will turn the corner, but before he gets the superstar status how about he plays consistantly well for 2 weeks to begin with, and if he can do that then maybe he should try 3 weeks.

Im tired of pipe dreaming

As I said, play him at CHF for the whole game. Let Marsh and Hall ruck. Let's allow him to get the feel for the ball and the game instaed of continually throwing him into the ruck. CHF is his best bet to regain form.

If we are to persist with anyone,Otto is the man.

I think it's up to him wether he will stay or not judging
by reports of his dis-content with the club.

If he wants to stay then we should make him a designated forward
letting him ruck only on the occassion he is on fire.

If he wants to go then the choice is easy.

lol oxx... 5 games at the club - lets give him captaincy.

Id like to see Ottens, Johnson or Coughlan get the captaincy.

lol.It will probably be 22 by then.

Oxx.. you call yourself a Richmond supporter when you can't even spell Gaspar's name properly. There is no 'e' in Gaspar!!

As you guys giving Ottens crap over his performance, have you forgotten that he had a garden stake through his leg and a major back problem just last year? Yes, he is not performing at his best at the moment but who in the team is except for Hartigan and Brown who played consistently well in all the games so far?

Wayne Cambell is not the best Captain in the AFL but who in the club can take over? Its so sad but true that only a 3rd year player in Coughlan and a first year recruit in Brown are the only truly qualified ones.

LMAO - Sorry.

Ottens at CHF. Spot on. That's where we played him when he first came to the club, and he showed a lot.

There was a thread pre-season debating whether to play Ottens in the ruck or CHF. I think it was even on both sides. Not a bad problem to have fighting over whether he is best at CHF or ruck. How many players can play 2 key positions?

We'll be taking the soft option if we trade Ottens. Thats the easy way out. We should be doing everything to help him play to his potential. Start with bringing in a coach that knows how to get the best out of his players, rather than getting rid of one of the few players with talent we already have

You've started a plague Frory.:D

We need a new captain all right, but it would be nice to have a few players putting their hand up that are worthy.

Only one at the moment is Brown who's done it on a consistent basis SO FAR!
