Melbourne are weak. They have always been soft the last 3 - 4 years and there better be a change soon. If you watched Sandy on the weekend you would know it was their older players of the team Poyras, Gallagher e.t.c that won them the game against Bendigo. HOwever, if you watched Melbourne vs Port you would see that team is clearly hopeless and lost its way. Players play for pride if there is nothing left in the season, but Melbourne are just being used as an opposition to run training drills against.

They want more memberships for next year? How does the last 4 efforts (and season) advertise anything healthy for the team. Who would want to buy Melbourne memberships?

I believe getting rid of Daniher was the right move. But they better quickly get a new coach ASAP. Melbourne clearly needs to turnover some players and start trade talks with other clubs.

At least 2 or 3 good trades need to be done for the club, and perhaps trade them off for some draft picks, so we can get more draft picks this draft. The team needs to start over, as obviously your Greens, Robbo's, Bruce's, Whites, Wards, Nathan Browns, Yzes, Millers are simply not good enough to take us to the next level.

A clean start is needed, and perhaps use the above players as some trade bait to attract some very talented younger players. Most of that old coaching department like Chris Fagan, Mark Riley e.t.c need to be quickly moved on as well.

I would suggest Melbourne gets Voss as we have nothing to loose anyway with him. So if it doesn't pull off, it doesn't matter. Or we get Sheedy. So he can come in and turn the club around.

What a dismal effort Melbourne has put in recently. Worst than Carlton.

Re: Weak as P!ss

Totally agree with you. I don't think we'll get Voss why would he want to come? Unless he saw it as a an extreme challenge and wnated to undertake it

Re: Weak as P!ss

Perhaps he might come and start the team over though. Put in some trades and build up a fresh list.

I agree it would be a good challenge for him.

Re: Weak as P!ss

Am I the only one who thinks all this rebuilding crap is just that, crap?

It's one bad season and whether you like it or not the injuries did the bulk of the damage. I don't like using this excuse but Neitz, Robbo, McLean, Rivers, Whelan, Yze, Bruce, Green, Johnstone, Bartram, Moloney, Sylvia and Bell have all been out injured at one time or another. The problem with the injuries has been that they hit us all at once and for an extended period of time at that aswell. I'm not saying we would be in the top 4 or even the top 8 for that matter had we not had those injuries but I can guarantee you that we would be seeing a team that would be doing the Melbourne jumper proud instead of a team on the ground with their arses in the air getting pounded like we have over the course of the year. Melbourne has the players to make a push for the flag in the next few years it's just a matter of getting some more young talent to build a formidable depth team around the one we have now and getting a fully fit best 22 we can.

That's my opinion ofcourse, disagree or agree with it but that's what I believe.

**EDIT**

Just adding another thing, I also think this season will be a learning curve and could be a blessing in disguise for the future. Players that have been with the club for a long period of time may take a hint and know that if they want to win a flag before their careers are done then they will have to get their arses into gear and work as hard as they ever have in order to achieve that.

Disagree. The team out there on the park was beyond reasonable but the players are just a bunch of heartless pieces of s**t. How any team that cares can have 3 goals kicked on them in the opening 4 minutes is beyond me. I refuse to accept players pulling on the Melbourne jumper if they don't play with passion nor pride.

By the way I'm really, reallly angry.

Excuses are for the weak. Adeliade and St Kilda have had plenty of injuries over the past 3 seasons and have done a lot better than Melbourne this year.

THe problem with your opinion, is that these players have been at the club along time and haven't delivered that much. There just B Grade players. We do not have any A grade players that could take us to a premiership. Granted that Mclean will be but he isn't yet.

We need to turnover the list, this players that you have quoted, have not delivered during finals time most importantly.

THey have been weak as p!ss in 2004 & 2005 in the finals. None of them stepped up. We got over a St Kilda in 2007 who had 16 fit players on the park if that when the game was finished. THen obvioulsy we got done by Freo as we were weak.

Re: Weak as P!ss

See I disagree that the problem htis season is all down to injuries. As a club that needs money, we needed to do well in the pre-season cup, yet we couldn't win a game and lost every lead up game we had. Then Round 1, we were full strength and got flogged. It wasnt until Round 2 that the injuries really hit us hard. By that stage we were alrewady showing what a weak bunch of ........... our players/coach were.

I'm glad Daniher is gone and it should have happened 2 seasons ago. We dont need another politician coming in like Sheedy, we need a tough taskmasters in ????????.

A few years ago, our midfield was one of the softest going around. We got in a specialist midfield hard nut coach, recruited a few players (moloney, etc) and then had a hard nut midfield. We performed well on the field, but the coach left and we returned back to normal.

We need toughness in our coaching stuff, none of htis I'm a nice country lad like we had with Daniher.

Didn't we only win one pre-season game? Against Richmond - and look how well they've done for themselves since. Though obviously they'd taken notes before we played them :(

We have been crap this year, no doubt about it but injuries have played a major part in that. You only have look at the leagues best team in West Coast, who dropped 6 of 9 games during the season when they copped injuries, to realise what a major effect they can play.

To be honest, I don't think we're that far off being a really competitive team regardless of the disastrous year we've had. Making wholesale changes, getting rid of 8 or 10 players aren't what we need but what we do need is significant. What Melbourne really need to do is develop a spine, positionally and in our attitude. We have good support players but need a monster CHF (I think Bate is too small) and a powerful CHB. Do this and we're well on our way to being a very competitive club. And it is my opinion that Kevin Sheedy is the man who can lead us down this path. He demands nothing less than toughness and hard work and has always been great at building a strong goal-to-goal line. Bring it on!

too true. We have needed a spine for the last 10 years.

We tried Brad Miller at CHF and that was a waste of a draft pick. Also looks like Dunn is no going to play CHF either as he is too small.

We need to turn over our players so we can get a CHF and CHB.

Frawley might be a CHB but jeez he looks a little slow.

Were still weak in the forward line relying on Neitz, who can barely get half a season out of his body.

Why should he play next year? and he definately shouldn't be captain.

We need to start again at MFC.

You can't single Neitz out, he's not the only one struggling. Neita just needs some more game time and run into his legs, he still has a bit of run left in those legs.

Would you mind sharing reasons as to why Neitz should not play next year and why he shouldn't be captain?

Id prefer if he wasnt captain next year for 2 reasons. firstly allow him to just concentrate on his game, i know that sounds lame, but it seemed to have worked well for Crawford and Hird. And secondly, allows a new captain to develop while Neitz is still out on the pitch giving guidence etc..

Watch our structure when Neitz is out, it goes to shit, even if he plays and doesn't touch the ball and gives away a few frees its still better than when he is out. Having a bloke just barely 6' at fullforward and roosting it on his head is a terrible plan.

I feel bad for Neita because you can tell his heart is 100% in it even if his body is falling to pieces. Shame most of our other players are the exact opposite.

He will undoubtedly join Flower, Lyon and Stynes as legends of our club who were denied a premiership. Sad.

We already have CHB in Rivers. He just isn't fit enough this year.

Garland could develop into both CHF or CHB

There is no quick fix without stealing someone elses. I can't see anyone giving up a CHF to easily - they take too long to develop.

I blame the recruitment officer - this has been a problem for 5 years.:thumbsd:
