Sorry to bother the Carlton board with this.... but...

Is there any web designers among us (who have a bit of free time) and want to be part of something pretty excellent (that will help the CFC, the AFL and footy fanatics in general)?

There could be a fair bit of money involved.

Hit me up.

Thanks

Ytoojae

P.S. This will *not* conflict with the interests of bigfooty in any way shape or form. I have the interests of this site (it's my favorite AFL site - I read here rather than even use the official AFL site) at heart.

Alright - if someone takes my idea then, so be it.

I have the background to make it work but I need help on the design side of things. I have done web design but haven't had to do it for a few years and I'm sure a lot has changed.

I love that we have BigFooty and various other internet forums. We have statistical sites (footywire) and we have various AFL blogs (including a couple of special ones on BigFooty).

However, save for very few, the media outright sucks in what they present of the AFL. Last week we had the god awful AFL Draft presentation by Foxtel and yesterday we had Anderson's slanderous piece on Wayne Hughes.

I'm sick of it.

American professional sports, basketball for example, have outstanding websites that were designed by fans of the game (a couple may have become corporate entities but that's through how popular they became) for the fans such as realgm.com and hoopshype.com.

AFL fans presently do not have that type of luxury. I have the type of contacts that can get me media passes through to AFL games, functions, press conferences, etc. for most AFL clubs.

I have the type of background having worked with magazines, etc. that deciding on content isn't really a problem - though I would be looking for eager fans who can express their opinions in a well formulated and succinct manner to write articles, etc.

What I'm really looking for is the following;

- A few people who are willing to become part of a team to design a site and keep it up to date (functionality, sorting out errors, etc. the usual techy/design type thing).
- People who are willing to contribute to the site content (articles, blogs, game recaps, team/league news, etc.) - yes, that means you, the supporter who has always dreamed of attending press conferences and reporting ACCURATELY on them or writing opinion pieces on them.

First of all there needs to be the basic shell of a site designed and that's why I asked if there were any web designers around that may be interested in helping. I thought I'd keep this to our board (although we have a lot of other teams around, all of whom are welcome to contribute and will be offered to in time) and involve Carlton people before I opened it up to others.

Obviously, revenue would become a part of a site such as this. Perhaps branching out into other Australian sports (eventually) and maybe including overseas sports (further down the line).

So there you have it. There's my idea.

Sounds good I would volunteer but I only have a basic understanding of web design, but anything else I can help with let me know.

I like the sound of that. I'll PM you with my details soon. Cheers.

Thanks for the response so far peeps -- hope it keeps coming.

Just note - this was an idea that I bandied about with my partner over the past few days -- the Wayne Hughes article sent me over the top. We have some invaluable contacts, it's more a matter of getting this thing off the ground - trying to find costs involved and stuff.

Not really a business venture (though it could tie in with something else that is, eventually - but I'm really hoping to keep the two as separate as possible with the only tie-in being my name only) - I'm really just trying to put something together that is pure and simply for the fans by the fans. Just some place you can get the news, check it out and then rather than hosting forums, y'all get your butts (in this case web browser) back here to do what we always do here.

Hope you did not get carded for this

 why on earth did you get carded?
if spud doesn't get carded for his insulting dribble and you do for this then there is something seriously wrong..

Before I start I want to apologise to the moderators for posting this.

I did not get carded for anything that happened on the Carlton board regarding this message.

My younger house-mate decided it would be a good idea if he went to the Collingwood board and post a message regarding the selection of Luke Ball to Collingwood in the thread that contained a link to the audio announcing his selections.

It really wasn't bad what he wrote, something along the lines of it bring a tear to his eyes with Collingwood announcing their newest spud; and had I been moderator should have gotten a warning. I thought that they over-reacted to something that was fairly silly.

However, I received a one-week ban from posting on BigFooty as well as permanent banning from the Collingwood board.

With people jumping to conclusions that my banning had something to do with my proposed idea i just wanted to come here and put that to rest. BigFooty is a great site and I've made many friends. I've met several wonderful people from this site including Chief who shouted me a few drinks after the Brisbane loss last year.

As much as I honestly feel that they over-reacted and i never should have been red carded - again there was no swearing or anything involved in what was written - it (along with him writing in Arabic - how on earth do you do that? - on the TC forums) has taught me that I can never step away from the computer and/or leave myself permanently logged in from the computer.

Have a good week guys - I'll be back next week. If I'm not carded up permanently for writing this message. :(
